2019 CMA Awards: Thomas Rhett Talks Baby No. 3 and Walking the Red Carpet With His Daughters

Thomas Rhett couldn’t have been happier at the CMA Awards 2019!

Cassie DiLaura from ET caught up with the country singer on the star-studded red carpet in Nashville, Tennessee, where he opened to get ready to welcome baby No. 3, a girl, with his wife, Lauren Akins.

“We’re reducing it,” he said when asked if the two have already chosen a moniker. “We have five or six [names] to which we have limited it. We are now working on a second name.”

“But it will be a single name,” he added. “We have too many duplicate names in our family, so we have to make it a little easier.”

Rhett and Akins are already parents of two children, daughters Willa Gray, 4, and Ada James, 2, who looked just as cute as ever while posing for photos on the red carpet with their famous father.

“We brought them on the red carpet. I didn’t know how they would do it, but they did great,” exclaimed a proud Rhett. “We have this thing, we say,” Hey everyone, say Happy Halloween! ” and that’s when they get their best smile. Although it’s over Halloween, we still use that tactic. “

Regarding the way Willa Gray and Ada James deal with the idea of having another brother or sister in the family?

“Willa Gray fully understands, Ada James does not fully understand, but I think both worlds will be shaken when the new baby comes here,” Rhett shared. “A little bit of jealousy will probably happen, but I’m looking forward to it.”

Rhett went on and told ET that he thinks he was “born to be a girl’s father.”

“Maybe we’ll do that someday,” he added, when asked if he and Akins intend to keep trying for a baby boy. “My wife wants five children, and if we are five, she probably wants seven. I just want to wake up when I’m 55 and go to Thanksgiving and have a thousand people at our Thanksgiving table.”

Earlier in the interview, Rhett also opened about his emotional song “Remember You Young,” which he performed on stage at the Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday evening.

“I sometimes cry when I sing that song,” he admitted. “I wrote about my best friends, my wife and my children, and it is really very special to be able to play it in an award show for the first time.”
