Deavan Clegg and Jihoon Lee from TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way had a roller coaster ride to love. Clegg, previously a single mother of preschool daughter Drascilla, got pregnant during their first trip together. The couple now has a baby boy, Taeyang, and unfortunately suffered a recent miscarriage.
And although it seemed at first that Jihoon Lee’s criminal history of theft and fraud would keep them apart, Clegg claimed that she had actually left the US and moved from her home state of Utah to Lee’s home country in South Korea because she was afraid of a “dangerous” family member.
But on the November 11 special, 90 Day Fiancé the Other Way: Deavan and Jihoon: Our Journey So Far, the focus was on Lee’s family. Read why Jihoon and Deavan say that his family didn’t like his future American bride at first.
Clegg said she was Lee’s parents’ ‘worst nightmare’
Clegg and Lee met in an app and Lee said she was the fantasy of a “Korean man”. He was so fond of Deavan that at first he thought their relationship was a “scam.”
Instead, the couple met in a love hotel and, as Clegg says, “had some wine” and “had a lot of fun that night.” When she turned out to be pregnant, both she and Lee were surprised.
But nobody was as surprised as Lee’s parents. The 90-day fiancee mother of two said Lee’s parents considered her their “worst nightmare” during her first visit to them in South Korea. Regarding the problems of her fiance’s parents with her, she explained: “I had tattoos, I didn’t finish college, I came from another country, I am a single mother.”
In particular, on the 90 Day Fiancé flashback special, Clegg explained that his parents did not agree with having children outside of marriage. Needless to say their first visit did not go well.
Jihoon’s mother said that Deavan Clegg wasn’t friendly
The parents of Jihoon Lee admitted that their first visit to the 90 Day Fiancé star was not successful. They told TLC producers that Clegg had withdrawn and seemed upset and shy when they met her. Lee even admitted on the 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way Tell-All that his mother sometimes wished he was married to a Korean woman instead of an American.
Lee’s mother explained that in Korea: “You expect your daughter-in-law to be cute with you.” With Deavan she claimed: “that didn’t happen.”
Lee’s parents also shared that they were shocked and disappointed with the unexpected pregnancy of the couple.
His parents ultimately gave the ’90 Day Fiancé’ couple their blessing
Despite their difficult beginnings, the 90-day fiancé couple Lee’s parents got the blessing to get married. During the trip from Lees to Utah and Las Vegas to visit Clegg, they announced that they were “having a good time” with Lee’s girlfriend and that they would welcome her into the family. Lee suggested shortly thereafter.
And although they admitted to be “surprised” by the couple’s unplanned pregnancy, they welcomed their new grandson with open arms.
Since then, Clegg and Lee were legally married in Korea. They now live together in Lee’s homeland with their son Taeyang and Clegg’s daughter Drascilla.
