The royal family is expanding again.
On Thursday, Princess Beatrice announced that she was engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, her boyfriend of about a year.
According to a statement from her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the proposal took place earlier this month in Italy. The ring, which Mozzi helped design with British jeweler Shaun Leane, has a solid round cut diamond center stone flanked by four baguette diamonds and a pavé band.
The platinum and diamond engagement ring is, according to the designer, a fusion of Victorian and Art Deco designs. “I am so honored that Edoardo chose to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice with me and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives,” Leane wrote on Instagram. “The tailor-made experience was a wonderful journey; from designing the design with Edoardo to making the finished rings. The fact that the characters of both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice have been incorporated into the design has resulted in a unique ring that stands for their love and intertwining.
The couple also brought their excitement to social media. “We are very happy that we can share the news of our recent engagement,” Beatrice, 31, and 34, a multi-millionaire real estate magnate who wrote on Instagram. “We are both so excited to start this life adventure together and can’t wait to get married.”
The diamond engagement ring is very different from the pink padparadscha sapphire from Sister Princess Eugenie, who was given her by her husband James Brooksbank last year. Eugenie also reflects that of her mother, the Duchess of York, and the styles of Princess Diana – an oval precious gem in the center surrounded by diamonds.
While Kate Middleton is now wearing Diana’s blue ring, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring is most similar to that of Beatrice, as it also has a three-diamond appearance. However, the stones of the Duchess of Sussex are carved into a more square cushion than those of her younger cousin.
Beatrice and Mozzi will get married in 2020.
