Bethenny Frankel Pays Tribute to Ex Dennis Shields on the 1-Year Anniversary of His Death

Bethenny Frankel took time during the weekend to pay tribute to a special someone, her up-and-over boyfriend, Dennis Shields, on the one-year anniversary of his death.

On Saturday, the star of The Real Housewives of New York City posted an old photo of Shields playing with their two dogs. Frankel also looked back on the loss with moving words.

“Today, a year ago, I woke up to a beautiful sunny day with @biggysmallz by the pool, and my world collapsed and turned upside down in an instant,” wrote the 48-year-old reality TV star, referring to the Instagram of her dog account. “A man Dennis, whom I loved and respected, who was 30 years in my life, died unexpectedly.”

Then Frankel shared a sweet anecdote about how she and Shields chose the names of their dogs and demonstrated his thoughtfulness.

“Dennis insisted that we adopt biggy AND smallz for my daughter Peanut,” she wrote, winking at the nickname of her 9-year-old daughter Bryn. “He just couldn’t imagine they had to be separated. We ravaged our brains to stay up late and came up with the perfect name for two dogs from the same litter with very different body types. Ding 1 & Ding 2 was an option, but Pinda thought it was humiliating. Lenny & Squiggy were good, but I knew it would only appeal to the 40-set. “

“Then at 5 o’clock in the morning, Dennis waited for me to wake up and say in his stronger than Tequila New Yawk accent,” BIGGY AND SMALLZ “and two stars were born,” she continued. “He loved these dogs and the feelings were mutual. They especially loved his salty bald head.”

Frankel continued to discuss the special bond of her deceased ex with the dogs, after which he decided to discuss how she still handles the loss.

“Sometimes it seemed that he and she spoke the same language and they were the only ones who understood him,” she shared. “He was a loving, sweet, gentle, brilliant, complicated, hilarious, creative and supportive man. He is terribly missed but lives on in his friends and family and furry loved ones.”

The reality star ended up writing: “I am a different person and in a different emotional place than a year ago, and the wounds have begun to heal, but the scar will stay on my heart forever. RIP, August 10. Unforgettable. “

One year ago today, I woke up to a beautiful sunny day with @biggysmallz by the pool, and my world crumbled and turned upside down in an instant. A man Dennis, who I loved and respected, who was in my life for 30 years unexpectedly passed away. Dennis insisted we adopt biggy AND smallz for my daughter Peanut. He simply couldn’t imagine separating them. We racked our brains staying up late coming up with the perfect name for two dogs from the same litter with very different body types. Thing 1 & Thing 2 was an option but Peanut found it degrading. Lenny & Squiggy was a good one but I knew it would only appeal to the over 40 set. Then at 5am, Dennis was waiting for me to wake up and in his stronger than Tequila New Yawk accent said “BIGGY AND SMALLZ” and two stars were born. He loved these dogs and the feelings were mutual. They were particularly fond of his salty bald head. At times, it seemed like he and they spoke the same language and they were the only ones who understood him. He was a loving, sweet, gentle, brilliant, complicated, hilarious, creative and supportive man. He is missed terribly by so many but lives on in his friends and family and furry loved ones. I am a different person and in a different emotional place than I was a year ago, and the wounds have begun to heal but the scar will remain on my heart forever. RIP, August 10. #Unforgettable

Shields was found dead a year ago in a suspected accidental overdose at his home in Trump Tower in New York. The cause of death, however, was declared “indefinite” by the office of the New York City Medical Examiner.

In the season 11 premiere of RHONY in March, Frankel remembered how she discovered that Shields had died.

“Dennis died in his apartment three weeks ago,” Frankel said. “Tyler, his daughter, called me, crying hysterically, and she said,” My father died this morning. ” And I started screaming in the phone. “

In the episode, Frankel also shared her last text message to her deceased boyfriend with her daughter: “I love you, Dennis, and I will always be that. You are the most loving, beautiful man in the world and I’m sorry you had so much pain. Now you can really sleep. “
