Cardi B is convinced that Jay-Z can bring Colin Kaepernick back into the NFL fold.
“I feel that Jay-Z can bring Colin Kaepernick back,” Cardi (26) told TMZ on Saturday night. I feel that he has that power. I feel that Jay-Z can do it. “
The former quarterback of San Francisco 49ers has not played in the league since the 2016 season, after he had canceled his contract after disputes about kneeling during the national anthem to protest against police brutality against colored people. Kaepernick, 31, shared a video last week in which he reminded the NFL teams that he was “still ready” to play when invoked.
The “I Like It” MC said that despite the controversy surrounding Jay-Z combining his Roc Nation entertainment brand with the NFL, she believes his motives are pure.
“I think he could make a change. I don’t think he would sign an NFL deal without an agreement,” she explained. “I feel like he went in there, like,” Okay, if you want me to work with you, you have to put my people in there. ” I feel like he’s going to change it. “
The Brooklyn-born rapper criticized his NFL partnership from many Kaepernick supporters, including Kaepernick’s old girlfriend, TV personality Nessa, for linking his Roc Nation entertainment company to the competition.
“We will never turn away from @ kaepernick7 because your idols decided to work with the same organization that keeps Colin actively unemployed, all because he protested peacefully against social injustice in black and brown communities, especially police violence,” wrote Nessa, 38, on Instagram Thursday evening.
“So really, how can Jay-Z and the NFL express social justice in their partnership while keeping Colin unemployed because of his social justice work?”
Last week, the NFL announced that it is collaborating with Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, which will help select music artists for high-profile performances, including the Super Bowl.
As part of the partnership, Roc Nation will play a role in the “Inspire Change” campaign of the NFL, which aims to strengthen social justice. However, the Grammy-winning rapper is faced with kickback for his business deal after he had previously shown solidarity with Kaepernick. Kaepernick acquired fame and contempt for figures, including President Trump, for taking a knee during the national anthem to draw attention to social injustice and police violence in minority communities.
“It’s typical for the NFL to buy different PR looks to cover their dirt – that’s nothing new. But what’s disgusting and disappointing is that Jay-Z lets them use it,” Nessa told her Instagram followers. “Whether Jay-Z knew it or not (I don’t doubt his intelligence – so I’d think he knew it) he helped bury the NFL, which he believes is an iconic figure, Colin Kaepernick.”
