The royal baby watch has officially started! Fans have come to see Meghan Markle and Prince Harry less and less as they prepare for the coming bundle of joy.
Markle’s bump has increased over the past few weeks, causing royal fans to speculate that Baby Sussex will arrive sometime this month. Although Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not revealed the sex of their baby (and even said they do not know it themselves), it does not stop the royal guards from placing bets on what the baby’s name will be.
Shortly after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their baby news in October 2018, the gambling sites in England started to accelerate. Fans place bets on everything from the baby’s name to the time frame when Markle actually pleases. Royal fans can even bet on what the baby’s birth weight will be. Baby names are the most popular gambling topic, with sites such as Ladbrokes making hundreds of bets on what the royal couple will eventually call their bundle of joy.
The popular odds are that the royal baby is paired like a girl, and there are three names in the race for the Baby Sussex name baby sitting. While the headlines announced that Prince Harry would choose the name Diana as a little girl, popular public opinion has the leading girl name as Elizabeth. According to Ladbrokes, the top three names are Elizabeth, Diana and Victoria.
Could they really name the baby after the queen?
There are several reasons why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could do the name Elizabeth a favor. The most obvious is that it would pay tribute to the grandmother of Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II. The queen is said to be a loving grandmother and would no doubt be happy if her last great-grandchild was named after her. Moreover, Markle’s due date is reportedly sometime in late April and there is a clear possibility that the new royal baby could share a birthday with the queen, whose birthday is April 21. People are so sure that the couple will name the baby after the queen that Ladbrokes has the name with a chance of 6/1, very favorable indeed.
Diana remains in the running, although it seems more and more that it will not be the name that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle choose for their child. Although Prince Harry was very close to his mother and the public has a strong affection for Princess Diana, there are many connotations that belong to the name.
Princess Diana had a notorious relationship with the media and knowing that the new royal baby will be exposed to the press from day one, Prince Harry can be strongly opposed to putting that burden on a child. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter Charlotte already have the middle name Diana. Although it is still possible that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle somehow honor the name of their baby, it is a small one.
When will Meghan Markle give birth?
The exact expiration date of Meghan Markle has not been disclosed to protect her and the baby’s privacy. Royal bump watchers, however, are holding it for the end of April or even the beginning of May, which means that Baby Sussex will arrive very soon. Of course, no one knows yet whether the baby is a boy or a girl, making it harder to guess the name. In any case, the public does not have to wait much longer, because Meghan Markle will probably start her maternity leave soon.
