Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar rushed to the change in 2014 and soon started having children. Within a year of their wedding date, the couple welcomed their first son, Israel. Sam Dillard, the couple’s second child, was born in 2017. Fans initially thought the couple would have a large family, but after Sam was born, things slowed down. An extra pregnancy has not been announced since then. Fans speculated about Jill Duggar and Derick’s family planning for a few months, but no one seemed to think there were family issues for their small family size. Derick’s recent Instagram comments might suggest otherwise.
Derick’s Instagram comments hint at serious familial strife
During the run-up to Christmas, Derick went to Instagram to answer some questions in the comment section of one of his messages. While Derick regularly responds to fans, his correspondence took an interesting turn when he began alluding to the serious family drama. Derick dropped a number of serious bombers that put the Duggar family in a very negative light.
Apart from the suggestion that Jill Duggar was anything but forced to continue appearing on television, he appears to be the first person in the family to identify Jill as a victim of abuse. Jill Duggar, along with some of her sisters, was molested by their eldest brother when they were children. The bomb rocked the world of reality television and led to the cancellation of the family show 19 Kids and Counting, but it wouldn’t be long before they were back on TLC with a rebranded reality offer.
Derick also claims that the family compound, located on Arbor Acres Avenue in Arkansas, is a closed fortress. He stated that neither he nor his wife are allowed to visit the family estate unless the family patriarch is at home. While all his comments were interesting, one has made the fans think, in particular, that Derick and Jill Duggar avoid having children until they work through some trauma.
Are Derick and Jill Duggar preventing pregnancy while they work through family drama?
Fans have different theories about Jill’s lack of pregnancy announcements, but Derick’s recent Instagram release might give fans a definitive answer. Derick noted that he and Jill Duggar have become “enlightened” and are actively working through things. It seems, based on what Derick said on both Instagram and Twitter, that Jill Duggar was left quite traumatized in 2015 when the news of Josh’s mistreatment of his sisters was made public.
In fact, Derick noted that Jill didn’t want to continue filming, but was apparently forced to do so under the threat of lawsuits. How true that is, no one really knows, but if that’s the case, the young couple may wait to add to their family until things settle down, and they’re working through what’s happened to the family in recent years. However, neither Derick nor Jill have directly commented on that theory.
However, if that’s the case, it seems they have a lot more work to do. Reddit fans theorize that Derick has a “scorched earth” approach to dealing with family drama, and he may be isolating Jill further from her family. The reason for such an approach is unknown, but it seems such a serious break within a close-knit family would take a long time to get over it.
Fans have other theories about Jill’s lack of pregnancies
While the family drama may play a part in the couple’s decision to avoid pregnancy, there may be other reasons beyond their control. Fans have long wondered if Sam’s traumatic birth could have caused medical complications that would not allow Jill Duggar to carry another pregnancy. According to In Touch, Jill gave birth 40 hours before Sam was given birth by an emergency c-section. He also spent several weeks in the NICU, although neither Jill nor Derick have ever confirmed the exact complications Sam was suffering from at the time of his birth.
Other fans believe that the couple deliberately limits their family through birth control. Derick set fire to the internet in August 2019 when he apparently admitted that he and his wife were using birth control. While Derick never quite came out and said they were using contraception, he stated that he never said they were against it, and even suggested that his own parents were using preventative methods to get their children out of the room.
