Does Queen Elizabeth Break Royal Tradition for Meghan Markle?

When it comes to rules, Queen Elizabeth II has a lot of it, and she expects everyone to be followed carefully. For example, the queen has certain dress codes, some based on formality, others based on her personal preferences.

She also has strict rules regarding food that may or may not be served in her presence. The members of the royal family have always been diligent to obey Queen Elizabeth‘s long list of rules and regulations – for the most part.

However, in the months since Meghan Markle Prince Harry married and officially became royal, his grandmother seems to be slightly milder. So what royal traditions does Queen Elizabeth commit for the
Duchess of Sussex?

The queen invites Meghan’s mother to royal gatherings

It used to be that when someone in the royal family got married, their own relatives were usually not invited to private family events. For example, Kate Middleton‘s family does not receive invitations to exclusive dinners or other gatherings that are intended for royal company only. For Meghan’s first Christmas as an official family member, Queen Elizabeth sweetly invited her mother, Doria Ragland, to spend Christmas with the family at their Sandringham estate. Although Doria was unable to actually be present, the beautiful gesture that the queen announced was certainly not unnoticed.

She allows Meghan to wear fashions that break royal rules

The royal family is known for adhering to a very specific set of dress codes, especially with official agreements! Skirts must be at least to the knee, women must always wear tights, absolutely no dark nail polish and the shoulders must always be covered. In the past year, Meghan has violated all these rules with her outfit choices and the queen has not said a word! She seems to realize how amazing Meghan looks and how, although she is not technically following the royal protocol, she always keeps her looks elegant and stylish.

The queen allowed Meghan and Harry to marry at a church

Meghan Markle

The wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry was held in the St. George’s Chapel on the grounds of Windsor Castle in May 2018.

Millions of people around the world, including the alienated father, half-sister and half-brother of Meghan, who have been tuned to see Meghan step out of her car in her beautiful Givenchy dress, walk down the aisle and marry her prince! Although it seems as if no rules were violated here, as it turns out, the queen was really helpful on this occasion, because this was actually Meghan’s second time she got married!

Traditionally a church marriage would not be allowed if a royal family member married someone who was divorced, but luckily Harry’s grandmother was willing to bend the rules this time!

Meghan’s baby shower was quite the celebrity event

As just about everyone knows, Meghan Markle traveled to New York City to attend a baby shower that was honored by her best friends. Fans and photographers lined up in the snow-covered streets to catch a glimpse of the upcoming expectant mother and her guests.

Mostly royal mothers don’t have such a striking baby drink if they even have one. Baby showers are not really a British tradition, so when a member of the royal family celebrates such a party, it is held behind the doors of the palace and it is extremely quiet and peaceful.

It may well be that Queen Elizabeth is feeling more comfortable today, or she may always trust Meghan to make her own decisions without abiding by the royal protocol. Whatever the reason for the Queen’s decision to have Meghan bend the rules a little, we are happy that she is willing to sit back and let the little things go!
