The resident deck supervisor, Dwayne Pride, is a mysterious man. He lives and breathes for the NCIS: New Orleans team. Although Pride was once married and had a daughter, he wants to serve the NCIS team. Lately, he and Rita Devereaux have solidified their status. Who’s playing Pride’s leading lady?
Dwayne Pride’s love life on ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ is complicated
Some may not remember, but Pride married her wife, Linda (Paige Turco), before going south. Together the two had Pride’s only daughter, Laurel, whom he worships.
Linda only appeared in a few episodes. First in the NCIS crossover that opened the door to the spin-off of New Orleans, ‘Cresent City’, and then again in the episode of NCIS: New Orleans, season 1, ‘Master of Horror’.
Turco’s latest remarkable project, the CW’s The 100, is probably why she hasn’t been noticed on the NOLA set. Linda was raised in conversations between Pride and Laurel and has moved on. Pride is happy for her.
Every fan of the show knows that Dwayne Pride is married to his work. Protecting the citizens of New Orleans comes much sooner than usual, and that has taken its toll on his relationship with Linda (and Laurel).
In the course of the seasons not much happens in the way of Pride’s love life, because he knows how much his work means to him. Apart from that, working as a Navy detective sometimes means endangering your family, and Pride is not willing to endanger anyone.
That is until Rita Devereaux (Chelsea Field) comes back. The character and Pride have history. Not only did they have a mutual relationship, but the duo also made beautiful music together.
Who plays Rita Devereaux?
Chelsea Field plays Rita Devereaux, a prosecutor and naval commander in the JAG Corps. In fact, the entire building of NCIS was built on a crossover of the JAG empire.
The reconnection takes place when Rita is connected to a few cases the Pride team is investigating. Things aren’t exactly a love connection, but in a follow-up episode sparks fly.
Field is known for roles in Masters of the Universe, The Last Boy Scout and A Passion to Kill. The latter is where she met NCIS: New Orleans co-star and husband, Scott Bakula.
The actress is a health advocate and posts photos on Instagram of ‘healing food spreads’, vegetable harvests from her and Bakula’s backyard and several photos of healthy food to make fans drool. With Bakula by her side, it’s clear that the two are more in love than ever and are off the show.
Rita and Pride have a real-life love story
Field and Bakula got married in 2009 after 15 years of dating. The couple has two boys together. Bakula also has two from his previous marriage. Both Field and Bakula maintain an inconspicuous relationship and avoid making gossip food but like to work together on NCIS: New Orleans.
After his first marriage failed because of his hectic schedule, Bakula placed a clause in his Star Trek: Enterprise contract that reflected the importance of family time.
“I had included in my contract that I would be ready every Wednesday at 6 a.m. so I could be home for dinner,” he told People in 2015. “And I made time to coach my sons’ soccer and baseball teams.”
Bakula has learned from his mistakes and is more aware of the balance between career and life.
“We work hard to stay present,” he said. “Chelsea is incredibly present and has taught me a lot about relationships and spirituality. She makes me a better actor because she works more intensely and deeper than I do. ‘
