It has been a shocking week for soap fans. First, the news broke that Days of Our Lives fired the entire cast while the show was interrupted indefinitely. Then TMZ reported that the former soap star Tyler Christopher was arrested for public intoxication.
The mugshot on the gossip site shows the star that is confused with a heavy beard, very different from the tight look he had on Days of Our Lives.
The reports give no details about the behavior that ultimately led to Tyler being put in prison. However, reports show that he does not yet have to pay a bail and is still in jail for the time being.
DOOL Star’s Birthday Celebration Gets Out of Hand
Allegedly Tyler had a night in the city on Monday November 11 to celebrate his 47th birthday. However, the “city” was not Los Angeles. The incident occurred in Martinsville, Indiana.
In an interview earlier this year, Tyler began moving his family from L.A. to Indiana because of the cost of living. He also mentioned the distance as a burden on his family and marriage.
The long-time soap star chose to leave his role as Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives to focus on his family and sobriety. He has been open about his struggle with alcohol addiction.
The role was rearranged with Brandon Barash, who also appeared at the General Hospital. Stefan was recently supposedly ‘killed’ on DOOL, but rumors persist that Brandon was recently featured on the set.
General Hospital Recently Recast Role of Nikolas Cassadine
As soap fans know, Tyler started the role of Nikolas Cassadine in the General Hospital in 1996. He continued to play the role for almost 20 years off-on. Fervent viewers noticed that the daytime drama gave both Nikolas and his son, Spencer Cassadine, a name.
In the soap opera world, when the name of a suspected dead character suddenly pops up, that character is likely to return to the show. With that in mind, fans began to hope that Tyler would return to the General Hospital.
Tyler even received many reactions on Twitter about his possible return to the role. This support led him to thank his fans for being sweet and loyal. He also stated that the door to return to Nikolas was never closed. At least not by his side.
You are all very sweet to be so loyaI as you always are. I know they are talking about Nikolas as of late. I’ve always said I would never close that door from my side. I just want to thank you all for always rooting for me and the character. I grew up with him as many of u have.— Tyler Christopher (@Tyler2929) July 17, 2019
In a shocking turn, soap newcomer, Marcus Coloma, took over the role of Nikolas Cassadine. It is possible that this news contributed to the decline of Tyler.
What’s This About DOOL Stopping Production?
Every soap fan knows that the number of soap series in the air has fallen to just four. General Hospital, Bold & The Beautiful, Young & The Restless and Days of Our Lives are the only remaining soap series.
News broke this week that Days of Our Lives had released every cast member from their contract. Essentially the entire cast fires. The show is recorded 8 months in advance. Because they filmed enough to last until the summer of 2020, the main honchos decided to take a break from production to save money.
Sources say the show is busy for a renewal with NBC. If the show is extended, the actors are given an option to sign new contracts, probably at a lower wage than their previous contracts. What an attempt is to save the soap may ultimately be the end of the days.
Tune in to Days of Our Lives weekdays at NBC. The beloved soap opera recently jumped into the future for a year and the shake-ups have fans on their seats.
