Although many parents do not admit that they have a favorite child, it is reasonable to say that some children have a certain weakness for one of their children.
And now in an explosive new documentary, royal insiders have claimed that the queen – who has three sons, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward with husband Prince Philip, along with daughter Princess Anne – has always had a “blind spot” for one of the hen.
While rumors about a rivalry between Charles and Andrew have been circulating for years, the program now claims that the alleged feud is partly fueled by the fact that the queen has always preferred Andrew.
According to The Mirror, Channel 5 documentary The Royal Family At War – which will be broadcast on Saturday in the UK – will show interviews with a series of royal experts and people who have worked for the family for years, claiming there is a lifetime been a rivalry between Andrew and Charles.
Royal author Katie Nicholl reportedly tells the documentary: “There is real tension between Charles and Andrew. Andrew has a very different relationship with his mother and the queen was much more hands on.”
Meanwhile, Princess Diana ‘s former butler Paul Burrell adds to the news: “Andrew has always been the Queen’ s favorite son and he has never done anything wrong in her eyes.”
And journalist Penny Junor apparently says, “I think the queen has always had a blind spot when it comes to Prince Andrew.”
Prince Andrew was born while his brother Charles – who was eleven years older – was at a boarding school in Gordonstoun. He has since spoken about how much he was struggling with the school at that time.
Both brothers later joined the armed forces, with Andrew becoming a helicopter pilot at the age of 22. He fought famously in the Falkland conflict and was later greeted by the queen when his ship returned to the port on his return.
Nicholl reportedly adds in the documentary: “He came back a hero and was very much the golden boy of the royal family.”
In the meantime, according to Mail Online, the documentary also claims that he hopes to push to a “slimmed down monarchy” when he takes over.
“There have probably been cases in which Prince Charles considered Andrew to be somewhat liable towards the royal family,” says CNN commentator Victoria Arbiter, the news report said.
“That image of Prince Andrew who is the playboy in general is Prince Charles. He finds it shameful.”
The royal family has never confirmed a feud among the princes. Prince Andrew previously issued a rare public statement in which he denied a breach between them following reports about his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
“There is no truth in the story that there could be a split between the Prince of Wales and I about the participation of my daughters as members of the royal family and any constant speculation is meaningless,” he said then.
