Do you remember that your only concern in the world was to keep up with the Kardashians? Then the reality TV universe threw a curveball in your direction in the form of TLC’s 17 Kids and Counting. Gone were the good days of desperately trying to remember six “K” names – you were about to see how creative you could get with the letter “J.” Soon, 17 grew to 18, 18 grew to 19 – and when some of those 19 babies were born, America became more and more fascinated by the Duggar family.
In a family as large as a small army, striking is not an easy task. Thanks to her frank and candid attitude, Jessa Duggar has succeeded in achieving precisely that. The young woman and mother seem to be constantly in the news, whether for questionable parenting skills or rumors during pregnancy – but this Duggar daughter has more to offer than you would expect. Here is the unprecedented truth behind one of the most famous faces of reality TV.
She almost died during childbirth
Perhaps a better name for the DLC show of the Duggars 19 Kids and No Plans to Stop would have been. Famous as one of the largest families in America, the Duggar clan seems to grow by the second. You can be confident that you will probably never miss an announcement of the latest additions to the family, because a pregnancy with Duggar is almost always the most important news. Duggar pregnancies have even become such a common occurrence that People have created a handy dandy guide to help all inquiring minds keep abreast of the expected Duggars.
As the Duggars have undoubtedly learned by now, news comes as news with a price. The family often comes under fire because of their conservative religious beliefs and lifestyle, which are heavily explored by the public. Jessa suffered from this in 2015 at the birth of Spurgeon. After a difficult delivery at home, the new mother was rushed to the hospital and needed a blood transfusion and overnight stay. Fortunately, she recovered fully and the traumatic experience made her much more grateful for the “surprisingly fast” and easy birth of the second Seewald son.
$40,000 per episode, and asking fans for gifts?
Nowadays you can admire the wedding of your favorite celebrity from afar and appreciate all the glitter and glamor without the stress of buying a gift. That is, of course, if your favorite celebrity is not Jessa Duggar. Jessa and her now husband Ben Seewald came under fire in 2015 when they seemed to be asking wedding gifts from fans of 19 Kids and Counting.
In a post on the family blog that has been edited since, the Duggars wrote: “For readers who have asked about ending gift vouchers for the Seewalds, Jessa told us that her favorite stores are Target and Walmart.” According to Ashley’s Reality Roundup, the Duggars even mentioned an address for fans who wanted to send the newlywed money. Of course, for those who prefer to give a more personal gift, the expectant bride was nice enough to offer an Amazon wish list.
Consider this: the Duggars are said to have earned $ 40,000 per episode of 19 children and count and continue. The original show lasted 15 seasons and had a total of 227 episodes – even across the entire clan, that’s a lot of mulah. It is even more interesting now that Jessa has her own show, Jill and Jessa: Counting On, who has already broadcast nearly 50 episodes at the time of publication. You can understand why the not-so-subtle hint for gifts from the newlywed didn’t really suit the general public.
Her wedding officiant made some hilarious and surprising sexual innuendo
Thanks to our favorite Drew Barrymore rom-com, a first kiss comes with great expectations. The first time two people lock lips, a relationship can be made or broken, so it’s a pretty risky step to save it until your wedding day. However, this method seems to have worked to the advantage of Jessa and Ben.
It was no secret for fans, friends and family of the 19 Kids and Counting clan that Jessa and her friend waited until their wedding day to experience their very first hug. So then the wedding officer “Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin presented Michael Seewald without compelling the new groom to kiss his bride, the crowd of admiring lovers was understandably confused.
“Did you miss something by accident?” the wedding officer joked at the guests as the newlyweds quickly left the church. He further explained that it was the couple’s wish to share their first kiss alone – not in front of a crowd, cameras or their parents. “The longer I talk, the longer they can cuddle in private,” the officer said, as the crowd of guests burst out laughing. “So if I could have your attention for about three hours … The first kiss is a long one, do you know what I’m saying?” Um, okay!
She’s been called the Regina George of her family
Listen, nobody can be everyone’s cup of tea. Unless you are Oprah, it is inevitable that some people just don’t, or don’t want, like all of you. If you are a reality TV star, you can multiply that inevitability by about a thousand – just ask Jessa Duggar.
According to InTouch Weekly, 19 fans of Kids and Counting Jessa call the “fundie Regina George” – “fundie” that indicates a person of the Christian fundamentalist belief system, and “Regina George” refers to the meanest girl in school. Of course, growing up Duggar means that your school is also your home – an unfortunate catch for Jessa’s brothers and sisters if the rumors of Fundie Regina George are true.
According to a fan site from Jinger Duggar, many fans from both 19 Kids and Counting and Count on believe that Jessa is bitter, attention-seeking, and smug. “Jessa is young, smug and pregnant,” a user wrote before accusing Jessa of trying to steal the spotlight from her recently married cousin by releasing pictures of her own marriage to Ben. However, another user did not agree and said, “I refuse to believe that she is so cunning and retarded to consciously steal the spotlight. She is an idiot.” Ouch.
Judging from the way Jessa interacts with those parenting experts on Instagram, she probably won’t let her rumors go down. As her namesake, Regina George, would say, “Whatever. I get cheese fries.”
Jessa and her sisters give their hot take on what goes on between the sheets
Do you wish you could take a magazine from Jessa Duggar’s book? If you have answered yes, you will be happy to hear that you are not alone. According to the Duggars themselves, the oldest girls receive hundreds of questions every week from questioning spirits who want a hot look at Duggar on boys, fashion and even sex. Certainly, the Duggar children may not go out or even be alone with a person of the opposite sex, because that “can lead to some panky;” However, a lack of experience certainly does not indicate a lack of opinion – at least not for the Duggar ladies.
Growing Up Duggar, written by Jill, Jana, Jessa and Jinger Duggar, was published in 2014. Marketed as a ‘all about relationships’ book, the oldest Duggar girls told The Times Free Press that they hoped that their words would help not only young women to have their romantic relationships, but also in their relationships with both God and their parents. Shortly after the release of their book, the girls promoted by talking to Cosmopolitan.com on a number of pretty tasteless topics, giving them even more insight into their decisions and shocking us all about how they don’t seem phased about the word “sex” “in an informal conversation.
Her dad is the most intrusive wingman ever
For most people trying to survive and thrive in the modern age of dating, texting and social media, two-edged swords. However, the Duggar children never have to worry about falling in love with someone else’s photo on Instagram, or those endless iMessage ellipses that may or may not be the cause of all fear.
Why? Because the Duggars don’t date. Instead, the Duggars participate in a strict, supervised form of dating known as “courting.” During the court trial, the two potential lovebirds cannot be left to their own devices, nor can they text each other unless Jim Bob and Michelle are CC. Judging by the strict dating policy of the Duggars, you would probably assume that the Duggar patriarch would be the last person to arrange his daughter with her future husband. Well, you couldn’t be wrong anymore!
According to a message on matriarch Michelle Duggar’s blog entitled “How Jessa Met Ben,” she explained how Jim Bob gave Ben Seewald Jessa’s phone number and suggested the two conversations, not knowing that Ben was already a little in love with his daughter . The dating of Jessa and Ben was announced shortly afterwards, and as they say – the rest is history.
Jessa Duggar and Gwyneth Paltrow face off for most shocking baby name
Before Blue Ivy Carter, North West and Dream Kardashian, the newborn Apple Martin made headlines for her unconventional name. Why did Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin name their daughter after a fruit? Would there ever be a name that is more bizarre than Apple? The answer, of course, is yes – although we never thought it would come from a Duggar.
When Jessa and Ben announced their first pregnancy in 2015, fans immediately started speculating about the baby’s name. No matter how they try, no amount of speculation could have predicted the name: Spurgeon Elliot Seewald.
Unlike Paltrow and Martin, who chose the fruity name because it sounded “so unique and cool,” the Seewalds’ inspiration for the name of their first-born was an influential figure in their lives – the 19th-century British pastor, Charles Spurgeon. According to the couple, Spurgeon’s sermons and texts had a great influence on the couple and they continue to “influence many, many people” to this day. When their second son was born in 2017, he was also given a name directly from the history books – Henry Wilberforce Seewald. His namesake, William Wilberforce, was an English philanthropist, politician and leader of the movement who put an end to the slave trade.
Note to both haters and fans: You are not part of the Duggar village
You have probably heard the old saying that “it takes a village to raise a child.” The Duggars know the truth of that statement better than most. Between 19 children, two parents, an adopted cousin and ten grandchildren (until now), the Duggars already have their own village. However, as the most crucial experiences of your life unfold for millions of people every week, people said they felt they were just as much a part of your village. And they are not afraid to tell you exactly what they think of your upbringing – of course behind the safety of their keyboards.
Jessa Duggar is no stranger to this phenomenon and often finds herself the subject of social media “mama-shaming” for her specific parenting style. An example of this is an Instagram message from September 2017 with a sharply dressed Spurgeon Seewald sipping from a bottle. The photo looks innocent enough, but nothing slips through the careful eyes of Internet moms – many of whom thought the toddler was too old to receive bottle feeding. “You must watch and pray for speech and crooked teeth,” criticized one of Jessa’s followers. Another quoted the “scientific research” that links tooth decay to long-term bottle feeding.
No matter how annoying it was, Jessa didn’t let the haters drop her. “If you are concerned about [the photo], share all your wisdom and perfect parenting advice in the comments below,” she wrote the photo sardonically.
Why would a family that prohibits watching TV decide to BE on TV?
Some people are just destined for a life lived for the camera. These people include the Kardashians, the Teen Moms, and families that are larger than NBA teams – or, as America knows them, the Duggar family. For the most part, the 19 Kids and Counting fam seem humble and friendly people with traditional values and strong family roots. Because of the modest attitude of the family, it is natural to wonder why they even want to be in a reality TV program at all, especially because they allegedly have a strict television policy in their home, leaving the Duggar children only with DVDs able to view – of course under supervision.
So why would a family notorious for avoiding television programs look for opportunities to become television programs? According to Duggarfamilyblog.com (which is managed by good family friends of the Duggars), they do it for the fans. Their goal, starting with their first show 14 Children and Pregnant Again and including every show they’ve done since, has always been to show the world how children are a blessing from God.
Is she pregnant again?
It seems that this apple has not fallen too far from the growing pedigree. Jessa, who has given birth to two children since her marriage in 2014 and has avoided widespread pregnancy rumors, has plans for the future of her small family – big, big plans. According to an exclusive People from February 2017, Jessa and her husband are planning to welcome more children into their families; although fans may not see a baby bump on Jessa for baby number three. “It will take a while since we have just had a baby, but adopting and promoting adoption is very much in our hearts,” the young mother of two admitted.
We don’t have to look too far to see where Jessa gets her longing for a big family. After the birth of baby number 18 in 2008, Jessa’s mother Michelle Duggar told Ann Curry that she could never have enough children. “Saying that there are too many children would be the same as saying that there are too many flowers,” said the Duggar matriarch. “You just can’t have too many.”
Between new Duggar babies, newlywed Duggar couples and those whirling pregnancy rumors, it is safe to say that the world will see many more Duggars in the coming years. It is a Duggar world and we all just live in it.
