Irina Shayk explained why she had kept her relationship with Bradley Cooper private just months before the two had been together after four years.
Cooper, 44, and Shayk, 33, have officially decided to end their relationship and are working diligently to share custody of their daughter Lea De Seine, whom they welcomed in March 2017, an insider who told PEOPLE exclusively. The Oscar-nominated actor and the super model dated each other in the spring of 2015.
But the ultra-private celebrities always kept their romance in the spotlight, rarely commented publicly on each other and missed social media PDA.
“I have many friends who share a lot of their personal lives on Instagram or social media, very openly. I admire it and I love it, but I think it’s all about personal choices,” she told Glamor UK in February. “Because I have to be through my work, I have decided that my private life will be quiet. That’s why it’s called personal because it’s something for you and your family, and I feel happy with it.”
Cooper had a great year in 2018 with the release of his hit film A Star Is Born, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards and marked his directorial debut. After the prize season – and a busy promotional tour alongside Costar Lady Gaga – Cooper delayed concentrating on his family, a source told PEOPLE in February 2019.
“Bradley spends every day with his family,” the source said. “Most days Bradley and Irina take Lea together for activities. Sometimes they just walk on the beach. Bradley and Irina seem great.”
The source added: “He has had everything about his family.”
Cooper and Shayk won engagement rumors in 2016 when the model was spotted with a large emerald green stone on her ring finger. She continued to wear the ring for more than two years.
However, one source then told PEOPLE that raising their child was more important than getting married: “They are focused on their daughter, and they seem happy together.”
