We all remember the infamous Bobbitts when Lorena Bobbitt became a well-known name in 1993 when she took the headlines to cut off her husband’s penis while he was sleeping (and then reaffirmed). Lorena had accused her husband, John Bobbitt, of physical and sexual abuse, which he denied. She was acquitted of all charges and the jury labeled her temporarily disturbed by abuse and mental illness.
John Bobbitt recently joined a series on the life of the couple together entitled The Bobbitts: Love Hurts. Amazon is now releasing its own docu with Lorena’s view of the story, with the simple title of Lorena, and they will work closely with Lorena to produce it properly.
Lorena had been silent for a number of years, but most recently spoke of the 90s scandal at the Steve Harvey show in 2015. Producers and filmmakers for the upcoming original Amazon promise bring a new perspective to the story, despite some rumors or gossip can insinuate after a while.
When John was asked in an interview about the whole situation, John said, “She wanted me to hurt, that’s why she did it.”
Amazon has made an official announcement for the latest docuseries about the Bobbitt situation.
Directed by acclaimed documentary maker Joshua Rofé (Lost for Life), Lorena reveals the hidden truths in the infamous case of John Wayne and Lorena Bobbitt and challenges the long-held story that surrounded this event. The series offers a new perspective on Lorena Bobbitt’s story and exposes how this event laid the foundation for the modern 24-hour news cycle and increasing sensationalistic media coverage. Lost in tabloid coverage and jokes at the end of the night, the Bobbitt story was a missed opportunity for a national discussion about domestic and sexual abuse in America. Lorena is a groundbreaking new investigation into the deep moral issues and painful human tragedies buried in the heart of this infamous American scandal.
According to the story, Lorena decided to cut her husband’s penis with a knife after allegedly raping her before she went to sleep. After doing the deed, she left their apartment and drove away with the appendix and threw it in a field.
From what is unveiled in the trailer for the upcoming docuseries, are a number of witnesses, old images of the court cases and interviews with Lorena herself.
