An obese bride walking down the 145 kg aisle celebrated her 10th wedding anniversary by fitting her old dress after dropping half her body weight – and was amazed to find out that both she and her seven-year-old son were in it fit.
Mama-of-one Belinda Brodie’s obese frame made it difficult to find the perfect dress for her wedding day in 2009 and the 32-year-old was forced to order a size 24 white dress online to tie the knot with hubby Travis Brodie, 31.
But since 2014, inspiring Belinda, originally from New Zealand but now living in Perth, Western Australia, has completely turned her life around – an incredible 77 kg and six clothing sizes.
And on her 10-year wedding anniversary earlier this year, the sales coordinator celebrated the special occasion by trying her wedding dress again – and was delighted at how she completely flooded her new 68 kg, size 10 frame – even when she and son Oliver the neighborhood stood together.
Belinda said: “My wedding day was one of the happiest moments in my life, but a weight of 145 kg was definitely the most difficult.
“Preparing for the wedding should be a fun experience and finding the perfect dress is the most exciting part.
“Unfortunately, because of my size, there were very limited options for me locally, so I had to buy my dress online and have it customized.
“I still loved every moment of our wedding and felt like a princess.
“Now, 20 years later, I have lost more than half my body weight and feel better than ever before.
“My husband and I celebrated our ten-year anniversary in Bali to enjoy the sun and each other’s company.
“I decided that a special way to mark the occasion would be to try my wedding dress again.
“It was really emotional. It brought back the beautiful memories of our wedding day, but also how difficult it was to get a dress because of my size.
“There was so much extra space in the dress that I decided to see if Oliver could fit in the dress, I was a wow moment for both of us.
“Even with both of us in it, we could move around easily because there was so much extra space.
“I am so proud of who I have become and what I have achieved. My life has changed completely since I lost weight and I am happier and healthier than ever
Belinda said that her weight slowly began to pile up after she moved overseas from New Zealand to Australia in 2007 because she was not so active.
The size of the mother would fluctuate constantly as a result of the yo-yo diet – but after the birth of her son in 2011 he started to pile on the pounds more than ever.
But in September 2013, Belinda completely renewed its carbohydrate-rich diet of bread, pastries and pasta with a clean-eat regime that focuses on healthy proteins and fresh fruit and vegetables.
Now Belinda is fitter than ever, and six times a week on Brazilian jiu-jitsu lessons to keep her family on long-term, long walks on the beach.
Belinda said she and my site supervisor, Travis, are even planning to renew their wedding vows next year – with the mother excited to take a few new wedding photos to show her new slender figure.
She said: “I tried all the different diets. I would lose a little weight, but then quickly stop it again.
“I was not happy with myself and was 100 kg after the birth of my son. I would make huge quantities of baked goods and eat the whole tray. It was terrible.
“I finally decided to make a real change to my health after I had been to Perth Zoo with my son. I couldn’t keep up with him.
“He ran everywhere, and I would sweat and be completely out of breath. It was so embarrassing.
“The next day I threw all bad things out of my closet and started again. I started jogging every morning and finally went to a gym and went to fitness classes.
“I managed to lose 30 kilos in the first year. I felt incredible and the weight continued to decrease.
“It was all just clean food, exercise and determination. It was the best decision I have ever made.
“Now I have so much energy and I am so motivated.
“I feel like I am reborn and actually I live my life.
“Now, Travis and I are planning to renew our vows next year and I can’t wait to fit in a little dress and make new memories in my new body.”
