Mexico border shutdown may cause US to run out of avocados in 3 weeks

A closure of the border between the United States and Mexico could, according to the largest green fruit grower, cause an avocado crisis.

Steve Barnard, the CEO of Mission Produce, told Reuters that if the border is closed, the US will run out without the avocados in about three weeks.

He said that Mexico supplies almost all of our avocados this time of the year.

Forbes points out that you can still find the green fruit in stores. We also get avocados from Florida and Peru and the California harvest is just starting to appear in stores and will be picked up in the summer.
