Patrick Macon, a participant on the reality show “My 600-Lb Life,” has been diagnosed with gallbladder/bile duct cancer since filming ended for his episode. Macon, who appeared on Season 11, Episode 8 of the weight loss series, turned to Dr. Younan Nowzaradan for help in shedding weight and improving his health, as he was concerned about his ability to see his daughter graduate from high school due to his weight and health problems.
At the start of his journey with Dr. Nowzaradan, Patrick Macon weighed 657 pounds and experienced extreme health issues. He was given a copy of the doctor’s book, which contained a diet plan and instructions for getting started.
However, when he returned for his six-month check-in, Patrick Macon had gained 30 pounds. Dr. Nowzaradan chastised him for not taking his weight loss seriously and warned him that his body was close to giving out.
Despite the setback, Patrick Macon continued to work toward his weight loss goals and eventually qualified for gastric sleeve surgery. However, after filming ended, he was diagnosed with cancer, which has been linked to obesity. Macon’s wife, Amanda, shared the news on social media in early February 2023, offering her support and urging her husband to remember that he has an army behind him.
According to the American Cancer Society, being overweight increases the risk of developing gallstones, bile duct stones, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, all of which are risk factors for gallbladder/bile duct cancer. Macon’s diagnosis serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle to prevent serious health complications.
