My 600-Lb Life’s Cindy Vela – An Update on Her Weight Loss Journey

My 600-Lb Life’s Cindy Vela: An Update on Her Weight Loss Journey

Cindy Vela, a cast member on My 600-Lb Life season 9, made her debut on the show seeking the help of Dr. Younan Nowzaradan. She was determined to reach her weight loss goal, but her addiction to food made it difficult for her to comply with Dr. Now’s strict diet and exercise plan. Despite losing only 40 lbs. instead of the required 70 lbs. at the end of her episode, Cindy was still hopeful about her weight loss chances. However, there has been no concrete update about her weight loss journey since that time.

My 600-Lb Life: Childhood Trauma and Emotional Eating

According to Cindy, her overindulgence in food started when she was just eight years old. She had been molested by a family friend, which made her turn to emotional eating. She believed her molester would lose interest in her if she gained weight. Sadly, Cindy could never escape her eating addiction, which only worsened after her parents divorced.

My 600-Lb Life: Mental Health Issues, Lymphedema, and Diabetes

By age 30, Cindy was already living with mental health issues, before developing lymphedema and diabetes. Due to her precarious situation, Cindy’s friend Sandy encouraged her to seek professional help, so she could improve her life.

My 600-Lb Life: Personal Loss

In September 2021, Cindy lost her niece Miranda Sue, and paid tribute to her relative with a post on her social media. In January 2022, the My 600-Lb Life alum shared the sad news that her stepfather Raul Garcia Quintanilla had passed away. Before his death, Raul was very supportive of Cindy, and the loss was extremely painful for her.

My 600-Lb Life: Social Media Updates

Although she is relatively active on her social media platforms, the My 600-Lb Life celeb has never added any information about her weight. It’s also very difficult to judge from the My 600-Lb Life alum’s pictures, as she generally captures only her face, and not her full body.

My 600-Lb Life: Hopeful for a Healthier Life

Despite the lack of concrete updates on Cindy’s weight loss journey, she sounded determined and optimistic about her chances of reaching a healthier life after missing out on Dr. Now’s bariatric surgery. She said, “I’ll keep trying my hardest, and hopefully…I’ll be in a good enough place to get surgery. I’ve learned a lot during this time.” Hopefully, Cindy is still working towards her weight loss goals and will update her fans soon.
