Possible Kidnapping Suspect Leads Police On High-Speed Chase Through Southland

A possible kidnapped suspect was arrested after the leading police on a wild chase through Los Angeles and Orange counties Thursday night, possibly driving the victim irregularly in the vehicle.

Authorities pursued the vehicle for over an hour, starting in Palmdale and ending around 12:30 pm in Irvine.

The Sheriff’s Department in Los Angeles received a call from a man who said his girlfriend was sending him text messages from the car, claiming that two men kidnapped her and didn’t let her out of the SUV. She told the authorities that she was in the back seat of the vehicle and two suspects were in front, according to LASD.

The driver, an unidentified man, was driving through traffic irregularly – at some points he was accelerating and driving on the wrong side of the road. The chase twisted through Gardena along the 110 Freeway, in Long Beach on the 710 Freeway and the 405 Freeway in Westminster.

Sky9 was on the chase as the driver wandered back and forth over the 405 Freeway at Culver Drive in Irvine before stopping and surrendering.

The driver was picked up by the California Highway Patrol without incident.

One person in a wheelchair was taken into custody, although it was not clear whether the person was a victim or suspect.

The police did not provide any details.
