Many people know that the late Princess Diana is the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry. She had been married to Prince Charles for about 15 years before the couple divorced because of Prince Charles’s public affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.
In addition to being a committed mother to her two sons, Princess Diana also loved children in general. Before joining the royal family, she worked at a kindergarten for some time. As such, many royal followers are undoubtedly wondering: did Princess Diana want more children? If so, why didn’t she have it anymore? Read below for more information.
Princess Diana was a kind and nurturing mother
The upbringing style of Princess Diana was very different from that of many royals at the time. While royal family members often believed it was best to be stricter and emotionally distant from their children, Princess Diana wanted to be close to her sons.
Princess Diana enjoyed traveling with her sons and taking them to places – not only to have a bond with them, but also to show them life outside their palace. She was also known to stoop to talk to her children (something that Queen Elizabeth still disagrees with today) and gave them lots of hugs. Prince Harry once revealed that his mother gave the best hugs.
“She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and pleasure,” said Prince Harry in the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy.
Princess Diana did want to have more children
According to Ingrid Seward, a royal biographer who spoke with Princess Diana a month before her death, Princess Diana wanted to have more children. In fact, Seward said that Prince Harry often asked his mother to have another child because he no longer wanted to be the youngest in the family.
“She said she would love more children, and she didn’t see herself single [after her divorce] forever,” Seward said. “Harry wanted her to get married again, but William didn’t. He wanted Diana to be there for him.”
Princess Diana reportedly wanted to have children with this surgeon
After Princess Diana was divorced from Prince Charles, she had a relationship with a British-Pakistani surgeon named Hasnat Khan. The two met in 1995 and Princess Diana was said to be “squeaking like a schoolgirl” at the time because she thought Khan was so pretty.
Diana seemed to have been in love with Khan because she tried to learn more about Pakistani culture and even had thoughts about converting to Islam. It is said that one day she also wanted to have daughters with Khan.
The couple tried to keep their relationship under the radar, although Princess Diana and Khan broke up at one point. The reason for their split was never fully disclosed. Khan’s father claimed that his son had told him: “If I married her, our marriage would last no more than a year. We are so culturally different from each other. “
Princess Diana passed away before she could have more children
After her break with Khan, Princess Diana continued with Dodi Fayed, the son of an Egyptian billionaire. They dated a few months before they both died in the famous car accident in 1997.
It seems that the reason why Princess Diana no longer had children is simply because she did not have enough time to do this. She officially divorced Prince Charles in August 1996 and died a year later. That just wasn’t enough time to marry someone and have children with them.
