Princess Diana “fell” down the stairs when she was pregnant with Prince William, according to former royal family Paul Burrell.
In a new documentary entitled The Royal Family: Scandals at the Palace on Channel 5 in the UK, Burrell claimed that Diana fell off the stairs because “she wanted the attention.”
At the time, the Princess of Wales was four months pregnant with Prince William – who was born in June 1982 – when the apparent incident occurred.
In the doco, Burrell describes how he heard “a huge rumble on the wooden stairs” on Sandringham Estate.
The former butler went on to describe how he “found the princess halfway through, while taking a booty while wearing Prince William.”
While Burrell believes that Princess Diana has organized the incident, he claims she was careful not to harm the unborn prince.
“There is no way on this planet that she would damage her unborn baby, but she wanted attention,” he explained.
The same series of events was described in the explosive book from 1992 Princess Diana: Her True Story by Andrew Morton.
“When I was four months pregnant with William, I threw myself down, tried to get my husband’s attention, to listen to me,” the Princess of Wales told in a few interviews from 1991, which were subsequently published in the book .
Princess Diana married Prince Charles in 1981, but their marriage was far from the fairytale everyone expected of him.
Plagued by scandal, drama and affairs, the couple formally divorced in 1992, eventually divorcing in 1996.
A year later Princess Diana died tragically in a car accident in Paris with her then friend, Dodi Al Fayed.
