Taraji P. Henson Explains Why ‘Empire’s’ Cookie Lyon Is So Popular

Taraji P. Henson – destined to be the 2019 “it” girl of Hollywood – recently the title character played in What Men Want: a gender-ridden reimagining of the 2000 film with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt.

In the game The Best Of Enemies, later as activist Ann Atwater later this year, Taraji P. Henson went from tv star to leading lady. Hopefully, just like her biopic predecessors – Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody, Ben Kingsley in Gandhi, or Colin Firth in The King’s Speech – this upcoming film will bring the actress her first Oscar.

These leading roles, although well-deserved, are extremely delayed, Taraji P. Henson has stolen the spotlights in various supporting roles; however, it took a while for Hollywood to know what fans had known for more than a decade. Everyone who saw Henson in Talk to Me or Baby Boy saw talent at the center.

Henson discussed Cookie Lyon in a recent interview

On a press release for What Men Want, Taraji P. Henson was asked about her iconic role in Fox’s Empire, and why she thinks that Cookie Lyon receives so much admiration and attention from social media. She stated:

“I thought one of my films would make a star of mine, not Cookie, which beats her children with a broom and goes to jail for selling crack Wow, okay, people, that’s what you want … She is all about your 100% truth. “

Although she admits that Cookie Lyon may not be the best role model, she is sincere. Lyon retains a great deal of conviction and always remains true to who it is, and that, no matter how it is delivered, it is a quality to admire.

What Taraji P. Henson has in mind for her next role

While Taraji P. Henson is grateful for the level of reception, she expected another character who would catalyze her star status. When asked about roles that she would like to play, Henson did not hesitate for a moment. Henson attracted all genres and said to The Guardian:

“I want to play a wizard, a warlock, do make-up on me, make me a witch with a long nose, a fantasy thing from Harry Potter, get me out of my body, let me fly, put me in a muscle suit, a mask, put me in a – I do not know – a fatsuit, I play Jabba the Hutt, I play everything! “

Given the focus of Henson on the fantastic, it is surprising that she did not try to play a role in the upcoming Artemis Fowl film. From fairy tale commanders and goblin insurrections, the film would probably have produced some prosthesis and complex make-up.

Although Henson is said to be a big fan of the Harry Potter series, the only thing that now seems to be the Fantastic Beasts franchise, which, as we know, does not retain the same magic as its predecessor.

Give Henson a fancy costume and an Oscar already

Henson, from her great performance as Cookie Lyon on Empire to her performance in Hidden Figures and her Oscar-nominated turn as Queenie in The Curious Case by Benjamin Button, has played her acting comedy. If she wants to be a witch, just recreate Hocus Pocus and give her a prosthesis and a hat! It’s the age of reprisals, remember?

Whether Henson will hate in the near future is still unknown; however, it is time for this actress to thank the Academy. Hopefully Taraji P. Henson will get her chance with The Best of Enemies.
