Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley might consider each other now, but it looks like they’re on different sides of the law right now. Earlier in the week, Shirley’s wife, Kristina Anderson, announced that the 32-year-old television personality had recently been sworn in as a police officer. Yesterday, the media showed that Portwood, 29, was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. She was brought in by the police after they responded to a phone call about a domestic outage.
Why was Amber Portwood arrested?
According to E! News, the Indianapolis police responded to a call about a domestic outage. The call arrived on Friday around 3 in the morning. When the police arrived, Portwood’s friend, Andrew Glennon, told the police that he and his living-in girlfriend were in a heated argument.
Glennon, who met Portwood on the Marriage Bootcamp set, also told responding officers that Portwood was attacking him while holding their son. Portwood and Glennon share a child, James. James is only 1 year old.
The Indianapolis police did not release the cause of the disagreement between the couple, but according to OK! Magazine, Glennon is the person who reported the failure. Reportedly, coordinators received a text message from the victim claiming that he and his child were in danger.
Could she serve jail time?
The last walk-in of Portwood with the law is not her first. In December 2010, Portwood was arrested for the domestic battery against Gary Shirley. At the time, Shirley and Portwood had a relationship. Portwood was booked on two criminal charges. She was initially placed on trial for the incident.
The following year, Portwood violated the terms of her probationary period and was given two options; she could go to a rehabilitation program, or she could go to jail. According to the Huffington Post, Portwood decided that she would rather spend her time in prison. She served 17 months behind bars.
Given her convictions from the past, the prison time is not off the table. Authorities have not released the exact costs, nor what the next legal steps are for the Teen Mom OG star. However, CPS has been informed of the incident. James, 1, is still believed to be in custody of his father.
Amber isn’t the first Teen Mom star to find herself behind bars
Portwood is not the only teenage mother who has broken the law. Jenelle Evans, the franchise memesis of Portwood, has been arrested several times. Its costs range from assault to drug possession to probation offenses. Evans was most recently in the news when her husband, David Eason, shot and killed the family dog. The couple just got custody of three of their five children after a two-month lawsuit.
Nathan Griffith, father of Evans’ son Kaiser, was also arrested on more than one occasion. The former friend of Evans, Keifer Delp, is currently running a meth lab. Delp had appeared on Teen Mom 2 with Evans.
Adam Lind, the father of Chelsea Houska’s daughter Aubrey, has also spent time behind bars. Lind’s accusations seem to all seem to stem from drug abuse issues. Ryan Edwards, father of Maci Bookout’s oldest child, Bentley, was recently released from prison after spending three months in prison for violating his probation and theft.
