Meghan Markle has had a notoriously difficult relationship with the press, and it only got worse in the last year. Since the birth of her son, Archie Harrison, the Duchess of Sussex has undergone press attacks almost daily, suffering from extremely negative coverage.
Prince Harry has recently taken a stand against the way his wife has been treated, and many celebrities have also expressed their concerns about the press coverage of Duchess Meghan.
Recently, an unlikely supporter took the floor, defended Markle, and questioned the reason why the media blamed the former actress so quickly. The ally is none other than the former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
What did Hillary Clinton say about Meghan Markle?
It is known that the media around the world seem to have a problem with Markle. It is unclear whether the problem stems from the aversion of the British public to the fact that an American married his English prince, or her previous occupation, or the fact that she was previously married. What is clear is that she does not seem to take a break, with new negative stories that hit the tabloids every day.
Yet a very striking proponent of Meghan Markle has a different theory about the reason for all the hatred she receives. Clinton recently sat down for an intimate interview, where she revealed that she is one of the celebrities with Markle’s back. The former Secretary of State claimed that the way Markle has been treated is “inexplicable,” and that she believes that race “certainly” is part of the reason for the attack of negativity that Meghan Markle receives.
Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, also spoke during the interview and stated that she believes that the strong voice of Duchess Meghan for activism is also part of it. Both Clinton women expressed their support for Meghan Markle and made it clear that they do not support the war that the press appears to be waging the Duchess of Sussex.

As a young reader, I absolutely adored Nancy Drew, the intrepid sixteen-year-old high school graduate who solved mysteries. My friends and I all wanted to be more like Nancy: smart, brave, and independent. (In particular, I admired the way she would sometimes do her detective work wearing sensible pants.) That's why I was absolutely delighted to come face-to-face with one of my old Nancy Drew mysteries—The Hidden Window Mystery—while in my hometown of Park Ridge, Illinois last week. It had been donated to my old school's used book sale, and enjoyed by another local family, the Machons, who noticed that I'd signed my name on the inside cover. Nancy Drew was the first literary hero that I shared with both my mother, Dorothy, and my daughter, Chelsea. She's one of the heroes we write about in "The Book of Gutsy Women." I love that we shared her with the Machons and countless other families, too. #GutsyWomen
During the interview, Chelsea Clinton admitted that she does not know Meghan Markle, but that she respects her. Meghan Markle, however, has a relationship with Hillary Clinton.
When Meghan Markle was only eleven years old, she wrote to the then First Lady Clinton and expressed her concern about a sexist television commercial. Thanks to Markle’s sincerity, the commercial was pulled.
When Meghan Markle was an adult and forged her own way as a successful actress, she crossed the road again with Clinton, though on an indirect basis. Markle was a vocal supporter of Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2016 and spoke out regularly against her rival: Donald Trump.
Meghan Markle is known as a feminist and a long-standing advocate of liberal goals. Yet it is unknown whether Markle and Clinton ever actually met during that period.
Could Meghan Markle meet up with Hillary Clinton?
Some fans are beginning to speculate that Markle will reach Clinton and thank her for her support. However, this seems unlikely, if only because Markle is supposed to remain politically neutral as a member of the royal family.
Achieving a polarizing political figure can be seen as a statement in Britain. After all, during President Trump’s summer 2019 trip to England, Meghan Markle was severely criticized for not taking the time to go on maternity leave to meet him.
Yet Markle may be able to send a handwritten note or make a private phone call to Clinton – just because it seems as if real gestures of friendship seem to become increasingly rare in the duchess’s world.
