Just when we thought the love triangle between Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Atticus ‘Link’ Lincoln (Chris Carmack) was over, Grey’s Anatomy pulls us back. The finals on November 22nd left every final fan wondering if the father of Amelia’s baby is Link or Owen. And to be honest, everything is a mess. But some Grey’s Anatomy fans took the liberty of speculating how the storyline will turn out, including a theory about Owen’s death that will make you deeply saddened or ready for more.
Who is the father of Amelia’s baby on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’? Owen and Link are both viable
In the premiere of Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 – titled “Nothing more to hold on to” – Amelia visits Carina DeLuca’s office (Stefania Spampinato) and the OB-GYN tells the neurosurgeon that she is pregnant. After the episode, Entertainment Tonight reports that Amelia is pregnant with Link’s baby. And when he spoke to Krista Vernoff, the showrunner pointed out an intricate journey for Link and Amelia.
“I love throwing obstacles and growing opportunities in her path,” said Vernoff. “For her to have decided that she doesn’t want to go all-in with someone, but wants to roll out a relationship slowly and do it slowly and get to know a person and do something different than she did before … And then for her to discover in that same episode that she’s pregnant, feeling messy and exciting. ”
She continued, “This is a complicated, complicated thing. They were dating and having fun and now they’re going on a very different journey from the one they thought they were on. “
Then Amelia visits the Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 mid-season finals – titled “Let’s all go to the bar” – Carina, who – again – delivers some great news. And apparently Amelia is 24 weeks into her pregnancy, instead of 20 weeks. This means it’s more likely that her baby is Owen’s and not Link’s.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans theorize Owen’s death
After the final finals of the Grey’s Anatomy, fans flocked to social media to express their thoughts on Owen, Amelia and Link’s situation. And a fan on Reddit proposed a devastating theory about how Owen’s death could move the storyline for Amelia and Link to stay together.
“Just a theory. Amelia’s baby is Owens and Amelia tells Owen and Link about it,’ wrote the fan. “Owen was at home with Teddy then and hurried to Amelia’s hospital, but he had a terrible car accident on the way. Meredith and Bailey and all the relevant surgeons tried to save Owen, but he was too far away and eventually they had to pull the plug. ‘
The Redditor continued: “Link switches to father Amelias baby and makes Amelia and Link endgame with Owen out of the way. Heartbroken Teddy moves back to Germany with Leo and Allison. “
Of course, fans had mixed feelings about the potential of Owen’s death.
“I wouldn’t be against Owen’s death at all,” wrote a Reddit user. “He’s involved enough that his death would be a big problem and could cause some interesting developments for everyone.”
“Yeah, let’s leave two (possibly three) kids without their father and let Teddy lose to another significant one. I’m going with a big NO,’ wrote another fan.
When does ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 16 return for its winter premiere?
For now, it seems unlikely that Owen will die from Grey’s anatomy. And, of course, it would be hard to imagine the Shondaland series without McKidd. But no matter what actually happens to Owen, Amelia and Link, viewers just have to wait and see what happens next.
After the mid-season finale, ABC broadcast the promo trailer for Grey’s Anatomy winter premiere in 2020. The preview showed that the show will return on Thursday 23 January and will be part of a two-hour crossover event with Station 19.
Meanwhile, the network announced that Grey’s Anatomy will change its air time and switch to 9pm. ET lock. And it looks like the series of flagships will become “sexier” as opposed to devastating – or at least according to Vernoff.
“There are different rules before 9:00 p.m. then there are before 8:00 p.m. show, and we hope to take advantage of these rules,” Vernoff told Deadline. “Grey’s absolutely got to be a more sexy show when it was 9:00. So we’re excited about the change back to our original (Thursday) time lock. “
