They say that bad things come in threes. On 20 May, Grey’s Anatomy fans were preparing for the final episode of Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery. The departure comes after the departure of Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca. Now the Grey’s Anatomy team have confirmed that Greg Germann, who plays Tom Koracick, will be leaving the series after season 17. However, it looks like the actor could return for future episodes – here’s what we know.
Greg Germann first appeared as Tom in Grey’s Anatomy season 14. Initially, the actor started as a guest. He was then promoted to regular actor in season 16. Now it seems that Greg is ready to let go of his series regular status.
On May 20, during the all-new episode of Grey’s Anatomy season 17, Deadline confirmed Greg Germann’s departure. According to the publication, episode 15, titled “Tradition,” will be Germann’s last episode as a series regular.
Why is Tom Koracick leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
In the 15th episode of Grey’s Anatomy season 17, Jackson announced his big move to Boston to run the Catherine Fox Foundation. Then, at the end of the episode, Tom met Jackson in the parking lot and revealed that his colored roommates died while being treated for coronavirus (COVID-19). So now Tom wants to help Jackson change the system, especially for minority groups.
“The world is the way it is because people who look like me let it be,” Tom told Jackson. “I want to be an ally. I want to spend all the time I have left making this evil, stinking place a better place.”
Finally, Jackson told Tom to meet him in Boston on Monday morning. So now the two surgeons are leaving Seattle together.
