Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos Reveals First Night Was ‘Total Chaos’ & Why She’s Not Looking to Replace Her Late Husband

Bachelor Nation fans are excited for The Golden Bachelorette with Joan Vassos.

A sneak peek into the new season reveals that the first night in the Bachelor mansion was pure chaos. But Joan’s focus isn’t just on romance—it’s about finding companionship in her golden years.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Joan admitted that choosing suitors on night one without truly knowing them was a challenge. “You’re looking for a red flag, and it’s too early in the relationship to see red flags,” she said, noting how difficult it was to make decisions in such a short time.

The premiere preview showed her 24 suitors trying to catch her attention in fun and creative ways.

One contestant, Jordan, invited Joan to play pickleball. Soon, other men joined in. Joan humorously called it “total chaos.”” Despite the whirlwind, fans are eager to see who Joan will connect with as her journey continues.

Joan Vassos Isn’t Looking to Replace Her Late Husband

Joan’s journey on The Golden Bachelorette isn’t to replace her late husband, John Vassos. He died in 2021 after 32 years of marriage.

She made that clear to her family before embarking on this new chapter of her life. “I’m not here to replace Dad, I just want our family to be whole again,” Joan shared with her loved ones.

At 61, Joan is not looking for an engagement by the end of the show. Instead, she hopes to find someone she can spend quality time with. “I just want like a kind man and a generous person and someone who’s going to embrace my family,” she said.

She emphasized her desire for adventure and companionship in her golden years, more than a rushed engagement.

Handling Family Concerns and First-Night Nerves

The Golden Bachelorette’s first season follows a rocky Golden Bachelor season. Gerry Turner’s engagement to Theresa Nist ended in a quick divorce.

Despite this, Joan Vassos felt ready to take charge of her own journey. She revealed that her family had their concerns, particularly about the public display of affection that’s common on dating shows. “They were very adamant about me [not] kissing men on TV and about fantasy suites,” she said with a laugh.

But as the first female lead of The Golden Bachelorette, Joan is focused on breaking stigmas surrounding older adults in the dating world. “Dating at this age isn’t embarrassing, and it could be really fun,” Joan said, expressing her excitement about the amazing men she met.

No Engagement? No Problem – Joan Wants a Real Connection

Joan Vassos isn’t too concerned about the show’s infamous “Bachelor curse” and isn’t aiming to walk away with a ring.

Instead, she’s looking for someone to share the rest of her life with. “I knew this was a great opportunity,” she said. “I wanted to come off this show with a person that I wanted to explore a life with outside of ‘The Bachelor’ bubble.” Joan isn’t rushing into anything and wants to see where life takes her and her chosen partner.
