Fans of Million Dollar Listing L.A. were shocked. Longtime cast members Josh and Heather Altman announced their departure from the show. But according to Josh, this wasn’t a decision made overnight. The real estate mogul, who has been a fixture on the series since 2004, revealed it was a family-first choice that had been on their minds for quite some time.
“This wasn’t an overnight discussion where we just decided the night before, ‘Hey, let’s do this,’” Josh, 45, said in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly. “This has been something that has kind of been coming up over the past 24 months.” For Josh and Heather, 39, it was all about quality time with their two young children, Lexi, 7, and Ace, 5. With their kids growing up quickly, the couple wanted to make sure they wouldn’t miss out on the precious early years.
A Family-First Approach for the Altman Clan
Josh’s candid reflections on parenting made it clear why they felt now was the right time to exit the hit reality TV series. “We can always go out there and sell houses. We can always go out there and do all these things, but we’ll never get the time back when our kids are this age,” he explained. The couple realized they needed to seize the moment and prioritize family over work.
“It’s funny, you start hanging out with your friends who have older kids and they go, ‘Spend the time with them now because in a few years, they don’t wanna hang out with you anymore!” Josh shared, admitting that advice from friends hit home. His takeaway? “I would rather slow it down now, hang with them, and then when they’re teenagers and want nothing to do with their parents, we can go back to doing everything we did before.”
Despite stepping back from Million Dollar Listing L.A., Josh has made it clear he isn’t retiring from the real estate game. A father of two has partnered with Fontainebleau Las Vegas. He listed the exclusive Aston Martin Million Dollar Package. It features a five-night stay and a limited edition 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish. “Of course, it’s been incredible, and we’re so blessed to have that stage and to have that show as part of our life up to this point,” he reflected.
Heather Knew It Was Time Before Josh Did
The couple’s decision to leave became clearer after filming a special Las Vegas episode in season 14. Josh said Heather, who knows him “better than I know me,” brought up the idea first. “She saw it in my face,” he recalled. After they wrapped the Las Vegas shoot, Heather asked, “How much longer do you think you wanna do this?” The idea lingered, and by this year, they both agreed it was finally the right moment to make the change.
Heather and Josh have been married since 2016. They shared many memorable moments on the show. But, their love for each other and their children drove their choice. Since the announcement, the couple has embraced more family adventures, taking trips to Napa and even Scotland. But just because they’re off TV doesn’t mean they’re stepping away from the spotlight. Josh and Heather are also eyeing new ventures and living life on their own terms.
What’s Next for Josh and Heather Altman?
While the couple plans to continue pursuing real estate in a more balanced way, they are also excited to explore new opportunities. Heather, who played a key role in the show with her husband, will support Josh in real estate and other ventures.
Away from the cameras, Josh enjoys life. He is passionate about innovative deals, like his work with the Fontainebleau Las Vegas. He’s excited to blend high-end real estate with unique experiences, like the Aston Martin Million Dollar Package. “It’s so funny because when I went into it, I was like, ‘Wait, this is a good deal!’” he said. “It just felt like the perfect fit.”
