Kelly Ripa and Bachelorette Jenn Tran's Playful Banter Sparks Debate on Love on TV

Every rose has its thorn, and The Bachelorette star Jenn Tran certainly made her appearance on “Live With Kelly and Mark” memorable with a playful jab. The 26-year-old reality star joined the show to discuss her historic role as the first Asian woman to lead a season of the popular ABC dating show.

Kelly Ripa asked Jenn why she chose to find love on reality TV instead of through more traditional means. She could have found love among her fellow physician assistant students or “at church,” as her co-host and husband, Mark Consuelos, joked.

“You’re drop dead gorgeous. You could meet anybody anywhere, at any time. Why, why, why?” Ripa asked. Tran, anticipating the question, retorted, “I knew this was coming. I mean, is Hinge any better?”

Kelly Ripa and Jenn Tran’s Fun Exchange on TV

Jenn Tran turned the tables by inquiring about how Kelly Ripa met Consuelos. “Where did you meet your husband?” she asked. Ripa quickly responded, “I met my husband at work,” to which Tran added, “On TV, no?” This led to a playful debate.

“No, those are not the same. Those are not the same. We were both professionals. Are you acting on your show?” Ripa said, raising her hands as the audience gasped. “I didn’t marry Mateo Santos, I married Mark Consuelos.”

A source close to the situation revealed that Ripa and Jenn were simply ribbing each other, and the interview was well-received on both ends.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ Secret Marriage Revealed

In February, Ripa and Consuelos shared how they had to keep their 1996 marriage a secret from their colleagues on “All My Children” until Wendy Williams exposed their nuptials on her radio show.

“We’d eloped. It’d been a few months at that point. We were married for three months, nobody at [All My Children] knew we were even dating, much less married to each other,” Ripa recalled.

After the news broke, the couple had to reveal their secret marriage to everyone at work.

Ripa and Consuelos’ Enduring Love Story

Ripa and Consuelos recently celebrated 28 years of marriage. They eloped in Las Vegas in 1996, opting for a simple ceremony that cost just $179, including airfare. The couple cherishes those memories, even after nearly three decades together.

Ripa shared on a 2023 episode of “Live” that enduring rough patches in marriage requires accepting moments of frustration and looking at the bigger picture. “You’re going to fight, you’re going to have disagreements. Relationships, marriages are not sprints, it’s a marathon,” she said. “There’s going to be like, mile 24, when you’re like, ‘I quit.’ But you just got to push through. Just push through.”

Jenn Tran’s Journey as the Bachelorette

Jenn Tran will step into the role of the Bachelorette after competing for Joey Graziadei’s heart on season 28 of “The Bachelor.” Tran emphasized the importance of vulnerability in exploring relationships.

“What I took from Joey’s season was that you need to be vulnerable in order to really let yourself explore these relationships,” Tran told PEOPLE. “You got to let these guys see who you are, and you got to let them understand you.”

Jenn expressed her satisfaction with how her season wrapped up. “And I’m very happy with the way everything panned out,” she said. “I learned so much every day that I was there [to find out] about myself and what I wanted in a relationship. There was so much growth.”
