It’s not every day a husband calls his wife the “worst decision” he ever made—but Mark Consuelos did just that. And somehow, it made fans love him even more.
Before they were America’s favorite daytime duo on Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos had their fair share of ups and downs. The two first fell in love on All My Children, but behind the soap opera chemistry, real-life drama was brewing. The couple briefly broke up, unsure about their future.
Then came a pivotal moment neither of them could have predicted. A surprise joint appearance on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee brought them face-to-face just days after their split.
Mark recalled the emotional moment, saying, “Obviously, seeing her it was like, ‘This is the worst decision of my life. I have to be with her forever.’” And just like that, everything changed. “I asked her to marry me and we flew to Vegas the next day.”
The only regret? Mark admitted he never asked Kelly’s father for permission. “It’s been nearly thirty years, but I still think about it,” he confessed.

A Studio Goodbye and a New Chapter Begins
Now, decades later, the couple has gone from soap stars to morning show icons. But another major change is underway. Live with Kelly and Mark is officially moving out of its iconic Upper West Side studio after more than 37 years.
Fans were emotional when the final show from the old set aired on April 1. “What a beautiful tribute,” one viewer wrote. “So many memories, brought a few tears but lots of smiles!” Another added, “I miss REEG!! 😢”
Kelly and Mark made sure to take a few meaningful keepsakes with them to their new downtown home. Mark claimed a golden retriever statue named Sammy, a fixture in the studio since 1997. “I’ve had my eyes on him since day one,” he joked.
Kelly, meanwhile, chose her Disney Legend award. “It feels very on-brand for the new building,” she said. “Plus, I don’t want one of my kids to steal it!”
Fans Anxiously Await the Return of Live
While the show’s transformation has viewers excited, the extended hiatus has left fans restless. It’s been three weeks since a new episode aired. The move, originally planned to finish during spring break, ran over schedule.
But the wait is almost over. Filming resumes on April 7, and the grand debut of the new studio is set for Monday, April 14.
The couple is ready to bring fresh energy to the show—and more memories with it. “We owe a lot to this place,” Kelly said of the old studio. “And it’s going to be hard to replicate.”
