Mary Bonnet, star of Selling Sunset and Vice President of The Oppenheim Group, is showing a new side. In her memoir, Selling Sunshine, she talks about her traumatic past and the challenges that shaped her. The book covers surviving teenage motherhood and thriving in luxury real estate. On the Virtual Reali-Tea Podcast, she compared sharing her story in the book to her role in reality TV.
“This is my life,” Mary explained, noting how much more control she had over her book compared to the show’s editing. In Selling Sunshine, she opens up about being a teenage mother, surviving sexual assault, and finding success in real estate. “I want to share my experience so hopefully, other people can heal from this too,” she shared.
Staying Positive Through Dark Days
Despite her bubbly personality on-screen, Mary Bonnet admits to having dark days. She described how, like everyone else, she sometimes struggles. “I have my days, I’m not immune to it. I cry and stay under the covers for a day,” she revealed. However, what sets her apart is her resilience: “You’ve got to get out, you’ve got to keep going.”
For Mary, gratitude plays a big role in her strength. She feels “blessed” to be in a position where she can share her story and help others. As she navigates her life and career, she’s found solace in knowing that her platform can bring healing to others with similar experiences.
Addressing the Drama in Selling Sunset Season 8
Season 8 of Selling Sunset is packed with drama, including rumors that cast member Emma Hernan had an affair with a married man. Nicole Young brought the allegations forward, leaving many in shock. Mary, who is close to Emma, immediately defended her. “Emma is a very sweet girl, and I feel bad for her being portrayed like that,” Mary said in an interview with US Weekly.
Mary expressed her disbelief over why Nicole would bring up such rumors, adding, “We didn’t know she was gonna do that.” She also emphasized her support for Emma, stating that she doesn’t believe the rumors are true.
Overcoming Trauma and Offering Hope
In her memoir, Mary Bonnet delves deep into the traumatic events that shaped her. She candidly discusses her experience with sexual assault and the emotional toll it took on her life. “I still am affected by it. It’s something that will probably never 100 percent go away,” she said. She also shared how reliving these painful memories to write her book was one of the hardest parts of the process.
Through it all, Mary has found a way to turn her pain into purpose. She now sits on AAGL’s board. It’s a women’s health group that raises awareness and funds for issues like endometriosis. Mary hopes her platform can highlight these topics. She wants to inspire others facing similar challenges.
