Reality TV fans were in for a major shock when Vanderpump Rules star Scheana Shay was revealed as The Bat on The Masked Singer during the March 5 episode.
The Bravo star’s strong performance of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” impressed the judges and the crowd. However, it still wasn’t enough to keep her in the competition. She was the first celebrity unmasked during the “Voices of Olympus: Unmasking of the Gods” night.
After her reveal aired, Scheana Shay took to Instagram to celebrate the experience.
“The secret is out! You can call me Bat. I loved competing in this season of #TheMaskedSinger.”
Many fans were stunned that the VPR veteran had managed to fool the panelists, including Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Rita Ora. Many guessed other Bravolebrities, such as Lisa Rinna and Bethenny Frankel. However, no one thought Scheana was under the mask.
The Masked Singer: Clues That Should Have Given Away Scheana Shay’s Identity
Before her big reveal, The Bat dropped several hints that pointed to Scheana’s reality TV fame.
“Like bats, I’m one of the most misunderstood creatures ever,” she teased. “I’ve been forever villainized, constantly portrayed as a blood-sucking backstabber.”
The biggest giveaway? She referenced her 2013 single “Good as Gold”, a song that longtime Vanderpump Rules fans immediately recognized.
“My real friends know I actually have a heart of gold,” she hinted. “I’ve just been surrounded by a bunch of lunatics, and for years all my words have been twisted upside down. I’m just out here partying and having the time of my life.”
Her costume itself held even more clues:
“Bats are one of my favorite animals ever,” Scheana revealed after her unmasking.
“My daughter’s name is Summer Moon, and bats are nocturnal.”
“We’ve got a ‘V’ on me for Vanderpump Rules.”
Fans of the hit Bravo series quickly connected the dots-but the judges were completely blindsided by the reveal.
The Masked Singer: Scheana Shay’s Real Reason for Joining The Masked Singer
Surprisingly, Scheana Shay was hesitant about doing the show at first.
“I didn’t want to come on at all, if I’m being honest. When I got the call, I was like, ‘Nope, nope, absolutely not. I am not doing that,’” she admitted.
She explained that years of being mocked for her singing career made her insecure about performing again.
“After being on Vanderpump Rules and people making fun of me for doing music, I was hesitant. I never wanted to be a pop star. It was always just a fun side hobby.”
However, there was one reason that changed her mind: her daughter, Summer Moon.
“That is something that I want my daughter to grow up and do-to not be afraid of the unknown and to take chances.”
With that motivation, Scheana pushed past her fears and took the stage.

Bravo Stars & Fans React to Scheana’s Masked Singer Moment
As soon as Scheana Shay’s identity was revealed, her Bravo co-stars flooded her social media with support.
“Yaasss!!!” wrote The Valley star Janet Caperna.
“Scheana!!” added former VPR castmate Stassi Schroeder, along with clapping emojis.
“Get it girl!” cheered Vanderpump Rules regular Israel Issac.
Fans, however, couldn’t resist throwing in a little humor.
“It’s not Dancing With the Stars, but it’ll do,” one fan joked.
Another wrote, “Has anyone checked on Scheana? Oh wait… we’re good!”-a clear reference to her longtime wish to compete on DWTS.
The Masked Singer: Scheana Shay No Longer Wants to Be on Dancing With the Stars
For years, Scheana dreamed of being cast on Dancing With the Stars, even revealing that she was in talks with producers in 2022. However, the spot ultimately went to her Vanderpump Rules co-star Ariana Madix in Season 32.
Scheana admitted that losing out on the opportunity was a “punch to the gut”. But now, she says she’s moved on.
“‘The Traitors’ is my new ‘Dancing With the Stars,’” she revealed on her Scheananigans podcast. “I genuinely don’t want to do Dancing With the Stars anymore. That time has come and passed.”
Now that she’s stepped outside her comfort zone on The Masked Singer, fans wonder if she’ll tackle a new reality competition next.
What’s Next for Scheana Shay?
After her Masked Singer appearance, Scheana seems more confident than ever.
“I had fun. And that’s what matters,” she said.
With Vanderpump Rules still going strong and her interest in new reality projects, fans are eager to see where she’ll pop up next.
