1000-lb Sisters: Amy Slaton And Tammy Slaton Faced Grief In Their Childhoods.

Tammy Slaton and Amy Slaton struggled to lose weight on 1000-lb Sisters. Amy on the TLC show has made more progress than her sister and has become healthy enough to have weight loss surgery and become pregnant.

While Tammy has always struggled with her weight, the same is not true for Amy. What caused Amy’s health turnaround?

During season 1 of 1000-lb Sisters, Tammy Slaton and Amy Slaton went to the junkyard to weigh themselves because they couldn’t find anywhere else that weighed enough. At her first appointment with Dr. Proctor, Amy revealed that she hasn’t always struggled with her weight.

In an interview with the Louisville Courier-Journal, Amy Slaton revealed that she was once a healthy child. But when her grandmother died when Amy Slaton was about 10 years old, she turned to food for comfort. “My mom worked two to three jobs at a time, and my grandma was basically our mom,” Amy Slaton said. “When she died, our whole world changed.”

Because their mom was away from home working so much, she and Tammy Slaton had to fend for themselves when it came to food. They didn’t know how to cook, so they started eating a lot of ramen noodles, frozen pizza and prepackaged meals.

When Amy Slaton married Mike Halterman, she started trying seriously to get pregnant. But at her weight, pregnancy was not an option. So she consulted doctors and started a weight-loss journey with her sister. Over the course of several seasons, Amy lost enough weight to qualify for surgery. But even then, weight loss wasn’t easy. After the birth of her son, Gage, Amy lost 270 pounds. However, Season 3 is still causing problems for the new mom.
