See How 1000-Lb Sisters' Tammy Slaton Conquered Her Biggest Challenge Yet!

Tammy Slaton, the courageous star of TLC’s hit show 1000-Lb Sisters, is setting her sights on a new milestone: learning to drive. After an awe-inspiring weight loss journey that saw her shed an incredible 440 pounds, Tammy is now considering the possibility of getting behind the wheel.

In a recent TikTok video, responding to a follower’s query, Tammy opened up about her aspirations and the anxiety that comes with such a big step. She admitted, “I do want to learn eventually but right now, [my] anxiety is just a little too much. A lot going on, but baby steps.” Her journey, marked by perseverance and determination, has been an inspiration to many.

Fans of 1000-Lb Sisters were recently treated to a touching moment on the show. In a scene with her brother Chris, Tammy was encouraged to try sitting in the front seat of a car, a task she hadn’t attempted in over 15 years due to her size.

The clip, shared exclusively by PEOPLE, captured the poignant moment when Tammy, with some trepidation, successfully sat in the front seat and buckled up without an extender for the first time in decades.

Her brother Chris, witnessing this milestone, commented joyfully, “When Tammy actually realizes that she sat down in the chair and she’s good to go and the door can close, you can tell the little battle that she just beat made her feel wonderful.”

A New Life for Tammy

Tammy Slaton’s weight loss journey has been nothing short of remarkable. From her highest weight of 725 lbs., she underwent bariatric surgery in July 2022 and is now down to 285 lbs. This transformation has not only been about shedding pounds but also regaining independence and experiencing life from a new vantage point.

Tammy’s recent achievements, such as walking without a walker, not requiring oxygen support, and fitting comfortably in the front seat of a car, have been monumental for her. She expressed her feelings to PEOPLE, saying, “Just being able to walk without a walker or be pushed in a wheelchair, and no oxygen. I don’t even sleep with it at night anymore. Then it was being able to fit in a regular vehicle, front seat, and then the belt buckle, and not have to use an extender now. So I mean, just what seems minor to some people is giant for me.”
