Amy Slaton of the 1000-lb Sisters has had a series of ongoing health problems that fans would like to explain. Amy Slaton’s scorpion-like personality has helped her redefine stereotypes by appearing on a reality series and successfully starting her own family.
Amy Slaton’s life hasn’t always been the easiest, and she has been plagued by underlying health issues along the way.
Amy and her sister Tammy Slaton joined 1000-lb Sisters in the hope of working to improve her health. Amy successfully lost enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery, which helped her shed even more pounds. TLC viewers have watched Amy’s life begin to take a turn for the better as her health has improved.
One of Amy Slatons greatest achievements was being able to give birth to her son, Gage Halterman. Amy is proud of all that she has achieved in her weight loss efforts. Before becoming a TLC personality, she had a normal life in Kentucky, but thanks to her career, a lot has changed for her.

Fans of the 1000-lb Sisters know that most of her health problems are due to her being overweight. One of Amy Slaton’s main health problems was her smoking habit. There is no denying that cigarette smoking, along with being overweight, contributed to her health problems.
However, it seems that she may have kicked the habit. Her years of smoking may already have done the world harm. Smoking is not Amy Slaton’s only problem. She also has high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma.
Fans have watched the 1000-lb Sisters star sleep with a sleep apnea mask to make sure she breathes through the night. Amy’s sugar intake before surgery did not help her diabetes. TLC cameras often caught her drinking a box and a half of soda a day. Just one 12-ounce can of whole-fat lemonade can contain up to 39 grams of sugar, with some studies showing that sugar is addictive like cocaine.
Amy Slaton revealed earlier this season that she also struggled with depression after losing her grandmother at the age of ten. The mother of one contributed to her weight gain after losing her beloved grandmother. She shared that she and Tammy were forced to fend for themselves while their mother worked and turned to pizza and ramen noodles.
