My 600-lb Life: Where Is Donald, The Star Of ‘My 600-lb Life,’ Now?

My 600-lb Life” is a TLC reality TV series in which each episode follows a morbidly obese individual weighing at least 600 pounds and documents an attempt to reduce this number to a healthy level. Under the care of Dr. Now, they change their lifestyle, undergo surgery to further aid their weight loss and eventually regain their confidence and their lives.

Given the series’ great success, it’s no wonder that fans are curious to know its protagonists even years after their episodes aired, especially those who were part of the very first season, which aired for the first time in 2012. So, we’re here to update you on the subject of season 1 episode 2, Donald Shelton.

My 600-lb Life: Donald Shelton’s Story

When we first met Donald Shelton in February 2012, we saw a 34-year-old Pasadena, Texas native who weighed 675 pounds and had to deal not only with food but also meth addiction. Because of his massive structure and lifestyle, he struggled with his security, social life and mobility. Having difficulty living in the normal world and knowing the risks his hot air balloon body was running for his health, Donald Shelton fastened his seatbelt and went to Houston, Texas to begin Dr. Now’s weight loss program. That was in 2004.

Since the first season’s subjects were filmed for seven years, what we saw in his episode was only a fragment of his weight loss journey. However, it was clear that he did not have an easy life to get rid of all his excess weight. After a while, however, he managed to turn his life completely upside down and lost enough weight to qualify for gastric bypass surgery. As a result of this, and an even greater weight loss, he also underwent excess skin removal and plastic surgery to improve his features. By the end of his episode, Donald Shelton had dropped to 380 pounds, having lost 285 pounds.

Since undergoing the high-risk surgery, Donald Shelton has continued his battle against obesity. After losing nearly 400 pounds in total overtime, he faced a huge setback after suffering a fall while walking. Frightened by what happened, he hospitalized himself. Not long afterwards, he went into a coma and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre disease, a disease that attacks the nervous system. He didn’t seem to make it.

Fortunately, Donald managed to get out of the frightening situation and recovered to the point where he was allowed to return home. However, his illness limited his mobility and now he had to rely on a scooter and a wheelchair to get around. Despite all this, however, he has not maintained the progress in weight loss on his backpack. Yes, her weight has continued to fluctuate from time to time, but she has managed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Donald maintains a low profile on social media, giving only sporadic updates on his Facebook page, both in the form of status updates and occasional photos. But from what we can see, despite his limited mobility, Donald’s weight seems to have shrunk dramatically since his debut on the reality series, making him almost unrecognizable.

  1. I seem to have to say this a lot, but this is extremely poorly written. It may not seem like a big deal to this site obviously. It shows a lack of professionalism and accuracy. It is hard to believe a site is reputable if they can not even edit before posting.
