In Season 12 of “My 600-lb Life,” we met Abi Ruiz. He’s a 37-year-old man from Texas, a tough case for Dr. Now. Abi started at 728 pounds and faced paralysis challenges. Despite this, he remained committed to improving and succeeded.
Abi’s journey on My 600-lb Life was unique. Unlike others on the show who move to Houston to see Dr. Now, Abi couldn’t even stand on his own. This made a trip to Dr. Now’s office impossible.
When Dr. Now met Abi and his wife Brenda, who cares for him, he started Abi with a physical therapist and a special diet. But it wasn’t until Dr. Now visited Abi at his apartment in Austin that he realized how bad Abi’s condition was.
Dr. Now thought hospital care was best for Abi. At 728 pounds, he checked in. Within a month, he dropped to 605 pounds. Dr. Now did bariatric surgery the next month. After a few weeks, he left nearing 400 pounds.
Abi lost weight but couldn’t stand, limited to arms. To qualify for surgery and walk, he needed 350 pounds. The episode ended before his progress update. Where is Abi Ruiz now?
What Is Abi Ruiz Up To After My 600-lb Life?
Abi from “My 600-lb Life” isn’t active on social media. His wife Brenda’s post hints at optimism. In March 2024, Brenda shared a photo of Abi with their dogs, captioned “The boys are so happy that Daddy’s home.” Abi seems to have returned after a procedure.
It’s unclear what the procedure was for. Possibly mobility-related, indicating weight loss progress. Abi, still bedridden, smiles brightly in the photo. He may need time and therapy to regain mobility. Let’s hope Abi continues progressing positively.
