'Alaskan Bush People': Ami Brown's cancer also took a toll on Billy Brown.

The Brown family may be out of danger now that matriarch Ami Brown has passed stage three cancer diagnosis, but the stars of Alaskan Bush People are still facing some health struggles in Season 11 – especially as far as daddy Billy Brown is concerned.

The Brown clan leader was briefly hospitalized in October 2018 with an upper respiratory tract infection. At the time, his son Bear Brown told Instagram fans that he was “with Dad at the hospital” and was “in pretty bad shape last week.

The setback was just the latest in a series of bad news for the family, from having to move to Washington state to his oldest son Matt Brown going into rehab.

Alaskan Bush People: Billy Brown is prone to seizures.

Previously, in the Discovery Channel series, the 66-year-old had an epileptic fit while in the woods. At the time, his son Noah Brown finds his father and wife Ami rushing to his side.

“Can you see me? Can you hear me?” Ami Brown asked her husband. “I can hear you, Ami, it’s over, I did it,” Billy replied.

Son Bam Bam explained the situation to the viewers, telling the cameras, “To put it bluntly, Dad just had an epileptic fit, that’s what happened. Every once in a while, he gets weird, he gets all squalid, he has an epileptic seizure. The situation varies from a light so light that he can hide it, to one so bad that he loses consciousness”.

In 2015, it was reported that Billy Brown was undergoing tests to find out the cause of his seizures, which he has been experiencing since he went into a coma in 2008.

“Everything shut down: my kidneys, my lungs. My brain swelled up to 75%. They literally thought I’d be childish if I woke up. It was a really bad thing that we’ve been fighting for almost ten years,” he told Radar Online that he was in a coma. “To be honest, right now it’s really all in the air.” We just don’t know. We’re praying a lot right now and hopefully we can continue our way of life”.

Alaskan Bush People: Ami Brown’s cancer also took a toll on Billy Brown.

In 2017, Billy Brown was spotted by some fans at a local mall and it was obvious that he had lost some weight, most likely due to the stress of his wife’s cancer diagnosis. It was actually Billy who broke the news about the family show.

“We’ve probably got a much harder road ahead of us than we’ve ever faced,” he said at the time. “There’s no doubt about that.”

Billy Brown was admitted back to the hospital again for respiratory problems in early September, a complication we’ll probably see happen in the Season 11 finale. Bear told his Instagram followers at the time that his father “got out of surgery the other day”, but unfortunately “still has some major medical problems”.

While Billy Brown fulfilled his dream of building an out-of-the-way house for his family in Washington, the doctors warned that he could not return to the mountains because the elevation of the ground could further impair his breathing.
