The first two seasons of Welcome to Plathville focused on Ethan Plath and his volatile relationship with his parents, Kim Plath and Barry Plath. They also showed how Ethan’s younger sister, Moriah Plath, saw in him an example of how to break away from the family’s rigid religious views, which prevented all nine Plath siblings from experiencing more worldly things, such as sugar, mainstream music, and shoulder pads.

Moriah was able to pave her own path and build an even stronger relationship with Ethan and his wife, Olivia Plath. But because Ethan Plath and Olivia Plath broke off contact with Kim and Barry in seasons 3 and 4, viewers wonder where they stand now. Is Ethan talking to his parents today?

At the end of the second season of Welcome to Plathville, Ethan Plath had a showdown with his parents. He met on their property to talk about their treatment of Olivia. He told them how he felt about their disrespect toward not only him but also his wife.

And he made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with them. Ethan’s younger siblings, who still live at home, have witnessed the animosity between Ethan Plath and his parents throughout the season.

In December 2020, Olivia spoke to People about Ethan and his parents’ position. She recalled the incident in season 2, when Ethan and his parents had a verbal altercation. At the time of the interview, Olivia said that Ethan had not made peace with them. Olivia said that Kim and Barry also did not make much effort to reconcile.

In season 4, episode 8, Barry contacts Ethan when he and Micah Plath are visiting Cairo. Ethan agreed to meet at his home to talk to his father face to face for the first time in two years, as long as his mother was not present. On that occasion Barry finally told Ethan about the impending divorce between him and Kim.

Ethan was understandably shocked at the state of Kim Plath and Barry Plath’s marriage.
