The latest season of TLC’s reality show, Welcome to Plathville, shares all the family secrets. If you thought Olivia Plath’s troubled relationship with her mother-in-law, Kim Plath, was anything to go by, wait until you hear what Olivia’s sister, Lydia Meggs, has to say about her mother’s view of Kim. It seems the Plath family is not the only one with internal conflicts – Olivia’s own family has some unresolved issues as well.
Welcome to Plathville: A Clash of Beliefs
The Plath family, consisting of Kim and Barry Plath with their nine children, has always been a controversial topic. From their strict parenting methods to their complex family dynamics, fans of the show were interested in their lives from the beginning. When Olivia entered the picture, married to Ethan Plath, it was clear that Kim and Barry did not approve.
On the other hand, Olivia Plath’s family also has its quirks. The Meggs, also a large family with deeply held religious beliefs, have much in common with the Plaths. But according to Lydia Meggs, Olivia’s sister, their mother Karen Meggs absolutely “hated” Kim Plath. In a recent interview with Realiteasquad, Lydia said, “My mom and Kim never got along. They absolutely hated each other.”
Both families were heavily involved in the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) homeschooling curriculum, the Advanced Institute. A curriculum that traditionally emphasizes the father’s role as head of the household. However, Lydia highlights a difference in family dynamics, saying, “In our house, it was the mother who ruled.”
Welcome to Plathville: The Rift between Olivia Plath and Kim Plath Intensifies
Lydia’s revelation comes at a time when the relationship between Olivia and Kim Plath is at an all-time low. Fans were shocked to learn that Olivia accused Kim of using Ethan Plath’s credit card without permission. This latest controversy seems to have driven a wedge not only between Olivia and Kim, but also between Olivia and her sister-in-law, Moriah Plath.
Moriah, who once had a close relationship with Olivia, revealed in the season 5 premiere that she had moved out of Olivia and Ethan’s home. About her decision, she said, “I don’t wanna be a part of it anymore.” She further clarified, “I have had to choose. And I choose my family.”
This confession adds another layer to the complicated relationships within the Plath and Meggs families. It also makes you think: If Olivia’s own sister is willing to speak out against the family they both grew up in, what does that say about the depth of these family feuds?
