In 2018, Kody Brown convinced his four wives to leave Las Vegas for Flagstaff, Arizona. He promised them a new beginning on Coyote Pass, a vast piece of land.
The plan? Build homes and create a family compound for peaceful living. However, the move led to tension, financial strain, and the end of their polygamous lifestyle.
From the moment the Browns purchased Coyote Pass, conflict arose. The family bickered over how to divide the land and struggled to pay off the property.
Over time, relationships deteriorated, leading to the departure of several wives. Years later, the land remains undeveloped, and many fans wonder if Coyote Pass was ever at risk of being lost.

Sister Wives: Was the Brown Family in Danger of Losing Coyote Pass?
Janelle Brown, Kody Brown’s second estranged wife, feared they might lose the property. Years of slow progress and financial issues caused her concern.
As it turns out, her fears were justified. The Browns had a loan with a strict repayment timeline.
It was owner-financed, and the clock was ticking. Reports say that if the family didn’t settle their debt by 2023, the original owner could reclaim the land.
Janelle worried that Kody might lose the property out of spite, given the rising tensions in the family.
Fortunately, they managed to pay off the debt just in time. As of June 2023, the loan was settled, and the family narrowly avoided losing Coyote Pass.
I love the way Kody slides it in there while mentioning the HUGE payment coming due on Coyote Pass Christine kept the equity in her home the “family” bought her. Didn’t Robyn buy her home with “family” money too? #SisterWives

Sister Wives: The Current State of Coyote Pass – Will Anyone Ever Live There?
Coyote Pass is untouched, despite clearing the debt. It looks like the Browns may never call it home. Several key family members have left Arizona entirely.
Christine Brown was the first to go, selling her stake in Coyote Pass to Kody Brown for just $10 when she left him in 2021. Janelle, who once championed the dream of building on the land, moved to North Carolina after splitting from Kody in 2022.
Meri Brown, another ex-wife, moved to Utah, cutting ties with Kody and the Flagstaff property.
Now, with three wives gone, Kody and Robyn Brown, the family’s only legally married couple, seem less tied to the area.
In August 2024, they listed their Flagstaff home for $1.6 million, suggesting a move out of state might be on the horizon.
As of September 2024, no family members live on Coyote Pass, and no building permits have been issued. With ongoing tension surrounding the land, it appears unlikely that the property will ever be developed.
Sister Wives: Property Taxes and Family Tension
Beyond the emotional strain caused by Coyote Pass, financial issues have plagued the family. In 2023, reports surfaced that Kody and Robyn owed nearly $4,859 in late property taxes on the land.
Legal documents listed Kody Brown as the owner of two parcels, and Robyn as the owner of three. This led to speculation that their financial strain caused the slow progress on the property.
Janelle’s frustration with Kody’s handling of the land was palpable during the most recent season of Sister Wives. She had pushed Kody to pay off Coyote Pass, but her pleas often fell on deaf ears.
In a November 2023 episode, Kody, Robyn, and Meri clashed over how to divide the land. Meri felt slighted by the proposed allotment of just two acres, compared to the four given to others.
