Janelle Brown’s latest Instagram post wasn’t the usual uplifting farm update fans have come to expect. Instead, the Sister Wives star shared the sad news that a hawk had attacked and killed one of the family’s chickens.
“So yesterday we discovered that we lost a chicken to a hawk,” Janelle Brown revealed in her video.
She went on to explain that the chickens are well-protected, living under the cover of trees that help keep aerial predators out. However, one adventurous chicken had a habit of wandering out of the protected area-and unfortunately, that curiosity cost it its life.
Janelle admitted the loss hit her hard, saying:
“I’m just kind of sad. I’m like, OK, so this is the reality of my life now, keeping animals.”
Despite the heartbreak, she acknowledged that loss is part of farm life, adding:
“You love them, you take care of them, but sometimes these things happen. Welcome to agriculture, Janelle.”
Her emotional confession resonated with fans, with the post racking up nearly 13,000 likes within hours.

Janelle Brown’s move to North Carolina has been a major shift in her life. After her split from Kody Brown in 2022, she sought a fresh start-both personally and professionally.

“Everyone was so surprised that they haven’t lost more chickens than they have, because chickens, I guess, are susceptible to predators,” she admitted.
Despite the setbacks, Janelle remains committed to building her new life and career.

Since leaving Kody Brown, Janelle has made it clear that she loves her independence.
Speaking on the Sibling Revelry podcast, she revealed:
“I don’t know what I’m gonna do. I’m not really interested in getting married again or even really dating at this stage.”
While she hasn’t ruled out romance completely, Janelle is prioritizing herself for now.
“If something presents itself in the future, I’d consider it,” she admitted. “But for now, I love my single life.”
Janelle recently shared her financial struggles during her marriage. She said Kody was draining their shared finances.
“I never felt like I had much control over my own money because everybody was pulling from the same [account],” she said on Sister Wives.
Janelle is happier than ever as she grows her business and gains financial independence. Farm life has its ups and downs, but she keeps moving forward.
