Janelle Brown Threatens Legal Action Against Kody and Robyn: “I’m Going to Have to Lawyer Up”

Janelle Brown Threatens Legal Action Against Kody and Robyn: "I'm Going to Have to Lawyer Up"

Janelle Brown is standing her ground after her 2022 split from Kody Brown. In the latest Sister Wives episode, airing on September 22, Janelle discussed the Coyote Pass land in Flagstaff, Arizona. She co-owns it with Kody and his remaining wife, Robyn.

While driving with her daughter Madison, Janelle vented about the property. It’s not fully paid off. “I have this piece in Flagstaff; well, I don’t know if I really have it because it’s not paid off yet,” Janelle admitted.

The family’s Coyote Pass land is divided into multiple plots. Janelle explained how each parcel is split between Kody and his current and former wives.

“The first two-acre lot right now is Kody and I; the second two-acre lot is Kody and Robyn; the third is a four-acre lot and it’s Meri, myself, and Kody; and then the five-acre lot – because Christine quit – is Kody and Robyn,” she shared.

Janelle is particularly concerned because the Coyote Pass land represents the only remaining asset from her marriage to Kody. In a conversation with Christine, Janelle revealed that Kody has refused to discuss the property.

“If Kody’s not willing to buy me out, then I’m going to have to do something with it,” Janelle told Christine. “But we’ve got to pay it off and he’s not talking to me about it. So I think I’m going to have to lawyer up because I think that’s the only way I’m ever going to get any kind of decision out of him.”

Christine, who split from Kody in 2021, fully supported Janelle’s plan to seek legal counsel. But Janelle also pointed out the additional challenge of their “spiritual marriage” complicating things: “I really have no legal rights to make any kind of claim on Kody’s property. Like, we’re not legally married… No, it’s really complicated because there’s no legal marriage.”

Sister Wives: Kody Brown’s Silence Speaks Volumes

Kody Brown, on the other hand, had a different perspective on the situation. In a confessional, he revealed why he’s kept Janelle in the dark. “Janelle asks me about the property all the time, but I don’t trust her anymore so I don’t give her any information.””

He also added: “We will pay off the property when the time comes, and I’m not giving any details… I’m tired of disclosing information that goes through the gossip mill of our broken family.”

Sister Wives: Janelle’s Financial Frustration Over Robyn’s Home

Janelle Brown is worried about money. She claims she helped with the downpayment for Robyn’s million-dollar Flagstaff home. But, Kody refused to put her name on the mortgage.

“When I put the money into the house, I said, ‘Well, I think it would be fair if all of our names were on the mortgage,’” Janelle shared with Madison. “And he’s like, ‘No, no, we need to protect Robyn’s estate. She needs to have it so it’s hers, and so it’s ours.’”

Janelle now wants Kody to sell the Coyote Pass land and split the profits. However, Kody’s refusal to engage has left her feeling like legal action is her only recourse.

“I’m going to have to lawyer up,” she reiterated. “That’s the only way I’m ever going to get any kind of decision out of him.”

What’s Next for the Coyote Pass Property?

Kody and Robyn Brown’s home was listed for sale in August 2024 for $1.65 million, but the property has yet to sell. Meanwhile, Janelle remains determined to get what’s rightfully hers.
