Sister Wives’ Kody Brown is finally admitting what fans and his ex-wives have known for years. His approach to plural marriage was a total disaster. In the February 2 episode of TLC’s series, Kody confessed that his lack of structure in dividing his time between his wives may have been his biggest downfall.
His former wives – Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown – could have told him that years ago. It’s clear that Kody is just now realizing the damage his “flexible” polygamy caused.
Sister Wives: Kody Brown Admits His Polygamy Style Was ‘Too Flexible’
Kody Brown, once the proud husband of four wives, is reflecting on where things went wrong. His biggest mistake? Not having a structured schedule for spending time with each wife.
“I was flying by the seat of my pants most of the time,” he admitted. “Just creative.”
Unlike other polygamous men he’s known, who run their households with strict schedules, Kody was more laid-back.
“I’ve seen other people who are much more well-organized, with flexibility,” he explained. “And I’ve seen people who are just completely rigid, you know, where there is no flexibility. I’ve known polygamists who wouldn’t even stay with his wife on her birthday because it was out of the sync of the schedule.”
But in hindsight, Kody admitted that his lack of structure caused problems.
“For me,” he confessed, “I believe in retrospect that my style of living plural marriage was a little bit too flexible.”
No surprise here – his ex-wives couldn’t agree more.

Sister Wives: Kody’s Wives Were Frustrated by His Lack of Planning
While Kody Brown may have thought he was being accommodating, his ex-wives saw things very differently.
Janelle Brown acknowledged that he was at least “pretty good about being fair, really fair, with his time,” but traveling with him was a nightmare.
Christine Brown, now happily married to David Woolley, agreed. She recalled that, at hotels, no one knew where Kody was staying.
“I remember we’d get to hotels always and he never would say where he was going to stay,” Christine said. “We never knew.”
For Meri Brown, the chaos was especially frustrating.
“I’m a planner,” Meri explained. “Like, I want to know what to expect. And I just very often wouldn’t get that kind of respect, you know, to even know. And he would just, like, show up.”
In other words, Kody’s wives were tired of never knowing when or if their husband would be around.

Sister Wives: Robyn Brown Says She Never Had an Issue – But Janelle Disagrees
Of course, there’s one person who didn’t seem bothered by Kody’s unpredictability – his fourth and only remaining wife, Robyn Brown.
Robyn claimed that she “wasn’t really paying attention to Kody’s schedule” and was fine whether he was there or not.
“It was great either way,” she said.
But she also acknowledged that “it seemed like it was a thing for a couple of my sister wives.”
Janelle, however, took it a step further – she actually dreaded Kody’s visits.
Having created a stable routine for her six children, she admitted, “I used to dread when he would stay with me because it’s such a disruption. I just want to have my own space.”

Sister Wives: Kody’s Biggest Regret – Too Late to Fix?
Kody Brown’s realization that his flexible polygamy style may have played a role in his marriages failing comes far too late.
Christine left in 2021 and has since remarried.
Janelle left in 2022 and has focused on her new farm and independence.
Meri left in early 2023 and is now open to finding love again.
Now, Kody is left with only Robyn. She insists she’s fine with his absence. But, she admits she feels abandoned by his ex-wives.
Kody’s chaotic approach to marriage may have worked, short-term. But, his ex-wives needed stability, respect, and a plan. He couldn’t provide that.
