Kody Brown Compares Failed Marriages to Sonny & Cher Split and Faces Legal Showdown with Ex-Wife Christine

In an emotional sneak peek of the October 27 episode of Sister Wives, Kody Brown reflects on his failed relationships. He unexpectedly compares them to the 1975 divorce of music icons Sonny and Cher. “When Sonny and Cher got divorced, I was six,” Kody recalls, his voice heavy with nostalgia. “It broke my heart… I was like, divorce is the biggest evil.”

The father of 18 reflects on how, even as a child, the concept of divorce was devastating to him. “At six and seven years old, I had no awareness that the idea of divorce was real,” Kody shares in a confessional. “Sonny and Cher getting a divorce… devastating. Like, does that really happen?”

Kody’s marriages to Meri, Christine, and Janelle have unraveled. He admits this has hurt his personal story. “This isn’t supposed to be part of the story that I’m writing about myself,” he laments. “We’ve crashed the ship, but we survived… That does make me terribly sad,” he adds as tears well up.

Sister Wives: Kody and Christine Brown Battle Over Truely’s Custody in Court

Meanwhile, Kody Brown’s post-divorce reality is far from idyllic. Legal tensions with his ex-wife, Christine, have intensified. Kody recently hired a lawyer to respond to her child support and custody lawsuit. Christine is seeking custody of their 13-year-old daughter, Truely, and has requested child support from Kody.

The couple’s custody dispute is due to Christine Brown’s decision to move Truely from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Utah after their 2021 split. Christine believed the move was best for Truely. But, it created an emotional distance. “I knew I was taking Truely away from her dad… I thought moving would preserve their relationship,” Christine shared in an October 2023 episode.

Kody’s lawyer appeared in court on October 13 to submit a counterclaim to Christine’s filing, though the documents remain sealed. As part of her legal strategy, Christine also asked the court to establish paternity since Kody’s name isn’t listed on Truely’s birth certificate.

Sister Wives: Christine and Janelle Speak Out: “Kody’s a Deadbeat Dad”

While the court battle plays out, Christine Brown has not shied away from expressing her frustrations. During an appearance on Radio Andy, she labeled Kody a “deadbeat dad,” adding, “Sorry, that’s two words, but it can be two.” She went on to describe him as “oblivious” to the needs of their children.

Janelle echoed Christine’s sentiments, noting that Kody often seems out of touch with reality. “I think he is selfish, and oblivious is probably a good word. Like, he seems to be sort of… bewildered by reality,” Janelle commented during the interview.

Sister Wives: A Shift in Family Dynamics as Kody’s World Unravels

Kody Brown’s struggles extend beyond his relationships with his ex-wives. His marriage to Robyn Brown, his last remaining partner, has also faced scrutiny. In an effort to move forward, the couple listed their $1.65 million home for sale in August. However, by early October, the property was taken off the market, possibly due to the ongoing legal drama with Christine.

Kody recently admitted that anger played a major role in the demise of his marriages, but he now hopes to foster a sense of healing. “There’s regret… the anger during those divorces,” Kody acknowledged. “But that’s all over now. Everyone’s healing, and we can move forward without the regrets.”
