Maddie Brown Brush has finally opened up about the painful reasons she cut contact with her father, Sister Wives star Kody Brown.

Fans of the hit TLC series have seen Kody’s three ex-wives’ relationships with him unravel over the past few years. His fractured bond with his daughter Maddie has been a topic of intense speculation – until now.

Speaking on her November 11 episode of The Authentic Society, Maddie, 29, got real about her long-standing issues with Kody. “I have no contact with some of my family, and it’s because of stuff that has happened,” she revealed.

The mother of three, expecting her fourth, said Kody’s disregard for boundaries caused their estrangement. “[Kody] doesn’t have any respect for boundaries, and you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that,” Maddie Brown said bluntly.

The Sister Wives alum didn’t hold back as she detailed how their rocky dynamic was worsened by Kody’s inability to handle criticism. “My dad would get very angry when I would…tell him what I think,” she explained.

“He didn’t like a mirror being held up.” Kody Brown’s defensive behavior was another major factor that drove Maddie away. “There was a lot of anger, and he’d be like, ‘That’s not true!’” Maddie shared. “And I’m like, ‘It is true. I know this firsthand.’”

Sister Wives: Kody’s Anger and Control Issues Exposed

Maddie Brown’s revelations showed a father who resisted his daughter’s independence. Kody Brown’s need for control, even at the cost of others’ feelings, worsened their tension.

“He would get very angry when I called him out,” Maddie explained, adding that her father would often discredit her experiences. For Maddie, being a “straight shooter” was a trait that clashed violently with Kody’s temperament.

Maddie also addressed the messages she receives from fans urging her to forgive her dad and “respect” him because he’s her father. But for Maddie, the situation isn’t that simple.

“I always get messages from people who are like, ‘You should just forgive your dad,’” she said. “But I’m like, ‘I don’t think you know what you’re talking about…your experience with your dad could be very different than my experience with my dad.’” The emotional distance between her and Kody feels almost insurmountable at this point, with Maddie even admitting, “Some people just don’t deserve to be in your life.”

Sister Wives: The Brown Family Continues to Unravel

Maddie’s estrangement from Kody comes amid the larger collapse of his plural marriage. Christine Brown, Kody’s third wife, was the first to leave in November 2021.

Janelle Brown, Maddie’s mother, followed a year later in December 2022. “Kody and I have separated, and I’m happy, really happy,” Janelle previously shared on a Sister Wives: One on One special. She emphasized that she was not holding out hope for reconciliation, saying, “I’ve kind of mourned that that part of our life is gone…We had this great run.”

Meri Brown, Kody’s first wife, announced her own separation around the same time, solidifying the family’s unraveling.

While Kody is left with only one wife, Robyn Brown, the aftermath of his failed relationships continues to impact his children. Fans have noticed that Kody appears oblivious to the damage his actions have caused, both to his ex-wives and his children.
