When Mama June Shannon started dating Geno Doak, everything seemed to be going well. Then, gradually, the couple went down a bad path. These included drugs and selling everything she had accumulated. Participation in the reality show had earned Mama June a lot of money, and she was about to lose it all.

They were eventually arrested, but the youngest daughter, Alana Thompson, needed a permanent residence. In 2019, one of June’s three older daughters, Lauryn Efird Shannon, took in Alana. She was married and had a young daughter, but she wanted to make sure her sister had everything she needed.

Mama June Shannon continued to get sober and sometimes tried, but Alana was better suited for life with Pumpkin, her husband Josh, and their daughter Ella. Their sister, Jessica, had also moved in with them after June pawned the title to her car and had nothing left.

Finally, Mama June Shannon was undecided about what to do about Geno. She claimed that he was abusive and she needed to get away. When she finally ended the relationship, she sought solace in another man in Alabama. Once again, she had abandoned her family for a man. It was becoming clear to Lauryn Efird Shannon that he had to make a final decision when it came to Alana.

When Mama June returned to Georgia, she had a new home and a new man. She said there was enough room for Alana, but there was nothing for Lauryn Efird Shannon to do. Together with Josh, they had worked so hard to create a stable home and there was no way she would ruin it.
