After years of development and delays, “The Last of Us” TV series is finally coming to HBO this weekend. And if the critical praise is anything to go by, it’s going to be an epic and beautiful ride. Video game fans won’t want to miss it; here are all the details on when, where and how to watch The Last of Us.
Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, The Last of Us is Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed adaptation of the 2013 video game.
The game is set in 2033, two decades after the world has been infected by a mutated fungus that has turned much of the population into cannibalistic and extremely hostile creatures. The disease and the infected still exist, and the post-apocalyptic US is full of oppressive quarantine zones. Smuggler and hardened survivor Joel Miller (played by Pedro Pascal) must smuggle teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the country.
In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, The Last of Us stars Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv and Merle Dandridge. There are also a number of guest stars including Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, Troy Baker (who played Joel in the video game), Jeffrey Pierce and others. Many of the characters in The Last of Us are from the game, but some, such as Kim Tembo played by Natasha Mumba, were created for the TV series.
‘The Last of Us’ TV Series Release Date And Time
The first episode of The Last of Us will finally premiere on Sunday 15 January. Fans in the U.S. can watch the premiere at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max, or at 6 p.m. on the West Coast. Thereafter, new episodes will be released weekly.
The first season consists of nine episodes. There is already a possibility of a second season, which would adapt the video game sequel The Last of Us Part II, but HBO has not yet renewed the series. After season 2, The Last of Us risks deviating from the source material, which Mazin and Druckmann do not want.
