Bebe Rexha Opens Up About Health Struggles and Life Post-Breakup

Bebe Rexha recently took to TikTok to share an update on her ongoing health struggles. The 34-year-old “I Got You” singer revealed that she has PCOS. PCOS is a condition where the ovaries produce too many male hormones. This diagnosis has brought with it a series of painful and challenging symptoms, including the development of cysts.

“Three weeks ago I was in urgent care,” Bebe shared in her TikTok post. “I was in so much pain, my doctor thought it was appendicitis. But it was actually a cyst that had burst. I was sick to my stomach.”

Despite trying over-the-counter medications like Tylenol and Advil, she found no relief. “The only thing that helped me, and I think you should try this if you have cysts, is a heating pad,” she suggested to her followers.

Beyond cysts, Bebe has faced other PCOS-related issues, such as irregular periods and severe bloating. She noted that one month she had her period for a total of 20 days, which significantly disrupted her life. To manage these symptoms, Bebe takes Metformin. It is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes. She takes it to regulate her menstrual cycle.

However, despite her efforts to stay healthy through diet and exercise, Bebe explained that PCOS has caused weight gain. This has happened over the past four years. “I was counting my calories, weighing things daily, writing in like ‘5.2 oz of chicken,'” she said, detailing her strict regimen. Yet, she realized that such an approach was unsustainable. “My doctor once told me that a woman with PCOS can eat a bowl of blueberries and it would be equivalent to a normal person eating a whole pie of pizza.”

Struggles with Body Image

While Bebe Rexha has been a vocal advocate for body positivity, she admitted that she doesn’t always feel confident. In a since-deleted TikTok from September, she opened up about her anxiety and stress related to attending the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. “I am so anxious and stressed about going on the red carpet,” she confessed, “and people talking about my weight because I’m not really loving myself right now.”

This vulnerability resonated with many of her fans. It showed the pressures that public figures face about their appearance and self-esteem.

Focusing on Music Post-Breakup

After breaking up with her ex-boyfriend Keyan Safyari, Bebe Rexha turned to her music. She told People.com that her strategy for dealing with the pain was focusing on her career. Her latest single, “Chase It (Mmmm Da Da Da),” reflects her decision to prioritize self-love and confidence over a new romance.

“Everybody wants to be in love, but I haven’t been chasing that. I’m kind of focusing on myself, and it’s really freeing and fun,” Bebe said. “And it’s kind of like, ‘So if you want this, then come chase it because I’m not chasing it right now.’”

The single is set to lead an upcoming dance album that Bebe is working on, marking another chapter in her successful music career.

Career Highlights and Style Choices

Despite personal challenges, Bebe Rexha has continued to shine professionally. She was nominated for a Grammy in 2023 for her single “I’m Good (Blue),” a remix of Eiffel 65’s 1998 hit “Blue (Da Be Dee).” Although she lost to Beyoncé in the Best Dance-Electronic Music Recording category, her presence on the red carpet was unforgettable. She donned a bubblegum pink gown inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic look in “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”

Her style choices have consistently turned heads, as seen at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards where she wore a striking black leather dress with bold cutouts.
