The Voice returned to NBC on Monday night and there was one big change from previous seasons. The three coaching chairs have been consistent for the past six seasons.
They included Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. However, there was one chair where a lot of people came and went.
Why Did Kelly Clarkson Leave The Voice?
Kelly Clarkson is the most successful coach in The Voice’s history. She hasn’t won as many seasons as Blake Shelton, but she’s won in 50 percent of the seasons she’s been on the show.
Kelly Clarkson even won the show last season with Girl Named Tom, and she would have been the defending champion at the start of this season.
Kelly Clarkson has just finalised her divorce and has made it clear that she wants to spend more time with her children. She has mentioned that she is taking time off from work to spend more time with her family. Her talk show, however, took over from Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show as the top show on daytime television. This meant she chose the daytime show ‘The Voice’ instead. She may come back in the future, but Kelly Clarkson has other priorities.
Blake Shelton and John Legend are both back on The Voice this season, the only two coaches from last year. Blake is the only coach to have been on The Voice every season since its debut. Blake is an eight-time winner in his 22nd season on the show. John joined in season 16, his only win coming in that first year.
Gwen Stefani has returned and logistically replaces Kelly Clarkson. This is because Gwen has appeared on the show several times before. She was a coach in seasons 7, 9, 12, 17 and 19. She only won one of those seasons, but that was her last appearance in season 19 when she led Carter Rubin to the crown.
